this year awards are joke, so the duo' absence is justified
by Obama on Apr 16, 2009 08:50 PM  | Hide replies

i remember reading the paper saying they gave a padmasri award to someone in Kashmir and noone knows who he is and they were searching for who nominated the common man. He has not contributed anything great. But someone played a joke, the committe did not even check the person...hmmm. who was casual?

while so many very deserving candidates in Tamil movies, Vivek was selected just because he donated few lakhs to TN chief minister fund. Who will respect this year award. Needless to comment about the person who is occuping the president post.

And some people think the president's office that does this kind of stuff should be respected. People are better off drinking cow's urine than to bow to the president's office out of respect.

Dhoni and Bhajji did the right thing by skipping this stupid ceremony.

Like government fines, these awards pay money that is not enough to cover even the first hours of these guy's night life.

Besides, why would they need government recognition when they are already so securely popular with Cricket fans?!

Well done Dhoni and Bhajji!!

harbhajan and dhoni made terrible mistake...
by ravi 23051a agrawal on Apr 16, 2009 08:39 PM  | Hide replies

it was really terrible to see such a negligence from players like harbhajan and dhoni.receiving a honour of national awards like padma shri is most important compared to avoidable family responsibility and ofcourse commercial responsibilities.even gr8 players like milkha singh, sachin tendulkar, kapil dev kept the honour of such award to utmost level.
i have seen the statement of harbajan on tv regarding the issue...he was too casual and shameless in his statement..as he said in future he will arrive 2 days in advance in the city for such award..and the way of saying was quite arrogant and shameless.they should always remember that a person is not only recogniged by his work but also his conduct.

In England the Queen is revered. Do you mean to say that our President also commands the same respect? Have you taken a look at her, she looks like a Dhobi's wife!
I think the sports minister should first look at themselves -- the politicians -- and then decide if they look respectable enough before making such comments.
I salute Dhoni and Harbhajan for treating these politicians for what they are!

If some day, Shibu Soren becomes the president, are you going to bow to him?
Not me bro!
The current prez is no better. When underserving people start occupying a respectable position the respect for the position goes too.

I gree with asim. It is the post & individual holding the post do not matter. I strongly recommend that the award to dhoni , bhajji & who ever takes the matter lightly be cancelled & they should never be considered again. If they can miss this for commercial gain what they wont do to throwaway matches if huge money is offered. I condemn their casual approach.

Dude, It is not the person but the President's post we should treat with respect. So even if a dog sits in it we have the duty to salute. They are the first citizen of the nation.

You mean that just because a dog or an illiterate sits there, we should honour them? Might as well have Barbie Doll sitting there :) After A J Kalam as the last president, we should atleast show some respect to him on who and what the next president of our country should be. There should be certain qualifications and criteria set before bestowing such a prestigious position on anyone. Last but not the least, in a country where Padma Shree awards has already become a joke when they award it to someone who has done nothing for the country except for their personsal gains. Atleast these two are making up for it by winning and paying tax which is going into the government coffers.

Casualness of Dhoni and Harbhajan
by shankar chatterjee on Apr 16, 2009 08:19 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni and Harbhajan have only done what they are capable of doing. They play for money and glamour. They clearly do not deserve the Padmashree. They do not belong to the class of Leslie Claudius or Gurbux Singh. Offer a fat cheque and you will find them in front of the queue. The Centre should not commit the mistake of offering the Padmashree to today's cricketers sullying it in the process.
