One of the reasons why such incidents happen is because the people who are supposed to be respected are not the role models one would like to give respect whether it is a minister, MP and the same applies to the President as well. I see nothing wrong in what Dhoni and Harbhajan have done. Politicians and Beaurocrats including the president should know that they get what they deserve and they deserve what they get.

Sorry but I don't agree, Its not respect for the politician or president but for a national award. I would consider disrespect to a national award as equivalent to disrespect to the nation
Respect has to be earned & cannot be commanded. This is the lesson to Gill & his ilk who are used to being fawned over by people they suppress. When confronted by people who have managed to break free of their shackles, their true feelings for these babus & mantris is reflected by the response of Bajji & Dhoni. If Gill is so important or popular, why did his name not appear in the headline. Even the media knows that Dhoni's & Bajji's names will attract eyeballs. This is the bitter truth, mantriji!
Our cricketers are making hay while sun shines.Before form deserts them and they fall out of favour(advertisemtnts)they wish to utilize every minute for making money.Who says they play for India.They play for the money they make by playing.
Perhaps the reason for them to skip the award was that there was not enough monetary incentives involved. The Government may need to do a rethink on such awards to cricketers.

Ya. Give them one million dollars, they will be there one week before, and show their attitude then also.
This is what happens when Padma awards are given to any tom, d**k and harry. Do you think these two worthies would have done the same thing if the same Padmasri award is given to extremely few people and held at a high standard? Govt should lifet their selection standards before complaining that people are not respecting them.

I agree that dhoni and bhajji should definitely have accepted the award in person as it is a national award, but to say that dhoni and bhajji don't deserve it, is an insult to their performance. Try and be rational in ur thinking buddy.

chill dude, I am thinking rationally. I never said they don't deserve it. I just said if the govt actually sticks to the guidelines and raises the standards of these awards, they would definitely have shown up. It's another matter if they deserve the award. If their only accomplishment is playing cricket and winning some matches, why can't they give Khelratna and Arjuna awards to them? Have they done anything outside cricket to the society like Steve Waugh?

A rethink is definitely required. Bhajji slaps a team mate over silly issues and Akshay kumar is booked for showing indecency on ramp- but both are Padam Shri awardees! It happens only in India.
While it was not proper on the part of Dhoni and Harbhajan to have skipped the function, Mr. Gill on his part could do well to shed his righteous air and indulge in a bit of self-introspection. After all, he did not recognize Pullela Gopi Chand, one of our very few world class champions, when the latter met him a few months back.
Guys and friends...the point here is that the award is given because of teh love we bestow on this cricketers..teh reasons which these guys gave was real silly. There was a channel who tried to find wht these guys were doing and found that they busy endorsing products in Delhi. Why not take the example of Sachin Tendulkar. Who arrives for such awards a day before , understands the protocol. the way he is the field and so he is outside.. the award is not behalf the president but its a award from teh Country..the ppl of this Country who stood behind Bhaji during bad time with Aussies or teh Dhoni everytime.. By doing this they not disrespecting the President or teh award but definitely " US " thats we Indians.. Shame on you two guys ! !

Saale kutton ko 1-2 crores ki haddiya daali jaati to lalchate hue award lene aate. We should really stop 'distributing' awards to people who don't deserve it. That person should really be worth and one can make out from their behaviour. Look at Sachin! These 2 idiots should be ripped of the awards.
