Really....They show a slum guy winning crore of ruppees...Do u rich people have a problem with that? They show a love story between a hindu girl and a muslim boy but u religious freaks don't seem to like that either. They showed hindu muslim riots which u don't like (Then u wudn't have liked Mani Ratnam's Bombay either). They didn't show corruption(So i don't know wat Mr. Saxena is talking about). They showed poverty (Which is the harsh reality) but u didn't like it becoz u r too ignorant of wats the situation of our country. At least 60% people in my country (India) are below poverty line (Myself included) but how wud u know? So don't write things about which u have no awareness pleeez.

Issues of home must be solved in Home.Outsiders simply make fun at us if Home issues are discussed outside.I am saying Indians must fight for all these issues but no outside intervention and fun.

It is not a bollywood movie. None other than AR Rehman who is nominated an Indian.
Please for GOD's sake stop claiming the credit.
Its true its nominated for the Oscars because of white skin involved. Its not an Indian movie , not even the language of movie is "Hindi".

very true...we already have much better movies than slumdog millionaire....n our talent in other movies werent recognised in oscar. Its just bcos a foreigner has made a movie, they are giving award. Moreover, AR Rahman had given fantastic music in previous movies, y his talent was never recognised...? Today foreigners want to tap indian bollywood market hence just for entering, they are giving oscar nominations for foreigner who has made a indian type movie.

Why are we getting so impressed by the news of a movie getting Oscar Nomination? If the same movie is made by an Indian, do you think it would have got the attention of the Oscar people?

It is the white skin that has made it and it is displaying the dark side of our "Going to be a super power" India, that irritates the whites. This is why this movie has got so much of attention.

SlumDog- West Degrading India
by L shankar on Jan 23, 2009 10:03 AM  | Hide replies

People of India Please beware of this type of films from west(UK & US) is only taken to show the world that India is Poor, Corrupted. They are intended to leave a very bad impression about India in each and every minds of people around the Globe.

Not a single concept in this film shows good things about India it only shows slum, Prostittion, corruption, Indian People cheating, Call centre negligence, etc....
Every concept is misleading people of world about Indians.

I feel very sorry for our Bludy actors willing to perform their roles which describes the world about the ugly part of India.
Please Bollywood actors dont do these type of roles for money. Please understand the story and concept before signing any film deals especially with UK OR US Directors. Remember English People SHow something and their hidden agenda is always different adn difficult for common people to understand their real intentions.

I am really disgusted by seeing this film and my english colleage mentioning this film is a great movie

Very well said Ram....Mayb Mr. R.k. Rangan and Mr. L.Shankar are living in a world full of false dreams..Or may b he has too much money that he can only watch films which show people like him(Rich or watever).Well i live in Slums with my family and many other people and trust me people like you (Middle class or upper) call us dogs in real sense. And if u really are worried about poverty being shown in ths film, Then do something.Maybe contribute a huge amount everymonth for people living in slums.I have seen people in slums shitting on roadside and walking all over it and when i was young many young kids were captured and their legs were cut and some were even blinded and were forced to do begging. There is still prostitution in india. If i being a slum dweller has no problem with this film then its better u don't talk crap about this. The movie is about winning in the worst of situations.Or is it mayb that even u can't stand a slum guy being shown as winning crores of ruppees. So just relax and don't try to spread awareness among other indians of which u have none.Allright? And i speak gud english too.So showing a slum guy speaking english should not be a problem too.

I truely agree with you on that Ram. We are afraid that the outside World is seeing our real face, the face behind the curtain. The face behind our modern Indian fake lifestyle. We want to show that we have Mc Donalds, Domminos and we wear Reebok, Addidas and Nike? We don't want to accept the fact that what is shown in the movie is actually another face of India. We like to see news of SRK getting six packs, but don't want to listen to the cries of hundreds of children dying due to malnourishment. We want to see AB (the biggest critic of this movie) wearing Giovanni or Gucci, but never see half naked children and women begging in streets. Let me ask this question, what ever is shown in this movies, is any part in correct? Don't you see children's begging? don't you see corruption in the country? don't you see the local people trying to make money out of foreigners? If your answer is No to all the above, then it means either India has really improved (which by the way hasn't in this regard) or you are just blind. Why we get angry if someone shows us our mistakes? Everything shown in the movie is about a real India where more that 1.2 billion people live and not that India, which consists of Infosys, Wipro or AB or SRK.

"it only shows slum, Prostittion, corruption, Indian People cheating, Call centre negligence, etc...."
Mr Shankar, let's accept that they didn't show any good about India. But can you honestly say that the above things you mentioned do not exist in India at all? The entire world knows both good and bad things about India and I don't think this film is an ultimate endorsement of India!
When talking about good things, let's take it this way. They showed a person becoming rich from the poor and they didn't show a person going bankrupt from riches! Is it not a good point? Is it not an encouragement to those who actually live such living conditions?
Let's remember that the film, Gandhi which got world's appreciation was also filmed by a Western. The fault is not in their thinking but it is in our thinking that we don't accept the reality knowing very well that every coin has two sides!

I always knew that India is poor and corrupt - and everybody else knows that as well. Look at the recent Satyam scam to understand how India is corrupt, and look at the slum-dwellers in the Indian cities to know how India is poor. Why get angry when we see the truth? Do you really think that the stupid Bollywood commercial films (like Shahrukh's Devdas or Amitabh's Eklavya) are really based on reality?

But, I think you won't understand it - because you might find Kumar Shanu or Shan more appealing than Ravi Shankar or Pandit Yasraj - since popular music is more entertaining than the classical ones!!

Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra are nothing but waste directors. No matter how much big hit they produce, they did not take Bollywood to new heights.

It was Ashutosh, Ram Gopal Varma, Maniratnam, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Om Prakash Mehra kind of directors and actors like Aamrikhan who took the Bollywood to new heights. Way to go for Indian Cinema with these kind of people.
