Osacrs TRP was all time low last year - this year a few million Indians will be watching...
Also, I wonder why TZP failed to make it to the finals? Is it because it does not potray the standard theme of poverty and "other bad things" of India and instead dares to tackle a subject which only the west has "right" to ponder upon?

I get it! You couldn't sink your teeth into that movie... got stuck at the kids teeth... may be teh same happened with the Oscar judges... Americans are famous for giving priority to "look" over "feel".

The subject in TAARE ZAMEEN PAR has been dealt in a different way many times in the West .... Normally films which deal with issues specific to one's own country seem to find favour with the Oscar Jury ...for example Lagaan , Mother India , Salaam Bombay etc ... I think we should have sent Jodhaa Akbar for Oscars....as it was widely appreciated by the American audience ....This is because our perception of watching a movie will be different from their perception of watching the same movie .... due to difference in cultures ...Regards Albert Phoenix

Jodha Akbar portrayed India's ancient grandeur. The west cannot digest the fact..they will get an upset tummy if they praise the film. In any case too many songs etc are not favoured by them.
well i believe we are overreacting and it seems like we have a problem with everything and anything. we have problem with, towards every other religion, between north and south indians. some people have a problem with people from every other states(example MNS) and it continues..
And I don't think SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE make a mockery or an attempt to sell the poverty of India to the West.
Sure, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE depicts life on the mean streets of Mumbai, so what? Doesn't it exist? Should we ridicule the effort it just because a gora has made it? We don't raise a noise when Indian film-makers do so, so why now? Double standards!

its not the movie, teh movie has lots of merits, but it got noticed due to the theme being familiar to westerners...

Its different when Indian filmmakers portray it. Just because your father has the right to rebuke you for your demerits, would you give the entire neighbourhood the chance?
