Azhar despite his involvement in matchfixing was adorned by countless fans. I still love the guys commitment towards cricket, despite the mess that cricket had once become. You wish he had a better environment to play in. Now we have Zaheer Khan and Sania Mirza doing us proud in areas we never suceeded before in. If Hindi is suppossed to be a national language, I am shocked to see most Hindi movies about a Punjabi guy/girl or family. Most of us arent from Punjab so its time we had charachters from all over India including of a Tamil guy who lived in Pune :) . Ive had so many Muslim friends and beleive me theyd never have hesitated one bit to help a person in need whatever the religion they are. Politicians sell religion and educated fools but it.

What has religion got to do with it ?
by ssddssdd on Aug 14, 2007 01:45 AM  | Hide replies

Celibrity who fail to deliver, Hindus as well, are never spared. Remember Saurav Ganguly and the ignominy he had to bear for long time. But if you are a muslim, there is always a religious twist, like, say, azharuddin. Evryone will come to their defence.
I think media and moview-people are totally commies, always bringing religion in between. Muslims (in India as everywhere else in the world) are judged by their individual and collective behavior. You cannot plant weeds and expect mangoes to grow. With this shameless propaganda of muslims everywhere in Indian media, they are making more and more people , Hindus and Muslims, communal .

As unaware as you are to your surroundings...I would like to inform you about prejudice and racism...if all thought like you slavery would still be around. How fair is it judge a group based on their group action? I think you should pick your words very carefully. Equality is one thing....the hidden bias in people's heart is another...you may deny it but the truth is what it is! Our modern society is still to grow into being colour/faith blind when it comes to evaluating people.

Why don't they make a movie where religion of the leading character does not even come into play.
Stop minority appeasement and stop minority baiting. Don't do either. Be neutral.
Is that difficult ?
Bollywood still needs to mature. It needs to work on neutral themes.
There are so many brand new stories to make a movie on.
Yet the same old themes persist.

I think U need to wake up from your Pseudo Secularism.. Amitabh's made lots of money by dying for Muslims in movies because of you Pinkos.. Amithabh's son Abhiskeh's first movie character was also a Muslim and THIS IS A PROOF THAT THE BOLLYWOOD DEPENDS on Pseudo Secular Pinkos....

India has more than one religion and Bollywood represents India, its people, its religion, its culture.... so there will be a Muslim hero or a Parsi hero (like Saif in Being Cyrus). Your point about Minority appeasement is crap. Its not politics. Its the movie business. Seperate the two.

by vinayak Khanna on Aug 14, 2007 12:08 AM  | Hide replies

i think it is in bad taste. if shahrukh ismuslim so be it,whats soabnormalabout it, we all indians should be indian first,he is an actor,he has played rahul, 110 times did we ever gave it a second look, why so much fuss about he playing Khan. this is all media hype.
Indian dont think like this otherwise no khans including older khans would be what they are today. he is fantastic star, mind you not fantastic actor, Aamir is still better.

I don't think the reasoning is as simple as what Vinayak Khanna (interesting name!) mentions.
I don't agree with all that Saisuresh writes but it's an interpretation which cannot be completely dismissed as "media hype".
Everything about a name matters...it's not the media which forces movie characters to be named Ajay Sharma, Vicky Malhotra, or Raj Saxena. Central characters in Hindi movies seldom -- never -- have "offbeat" names like Ranjan Mohapatra, Sivarama Reddy or Shahid Husain without alluding to a communal theme, upbringing or a derogatory reference to their antecedents (possibly in the name of comedy). A Khanna, Malhotra, Sharma or a Srivastava would never have to face that kind of "scrutiny" and is supposedly more "acceptable" to the Indian audience.
So, from that point of view, having a protagonist named Kabir Khan requires guts. But again SRK's audience these days is in the US and UK, so maybe this was done keeping the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in mind!!

just because you are not comfortable with things that doesn't mean whole world is not comfortable!, try and accept things in a positive way for some time, see how it feels, you may love life more than what you do now.
