i think it is in bad taste. if shahrukh ismuslim so be it,whats soabnormalabout it, we all indians should be indian first,he is an actor,he has played rahul, 110 times did we ever gave it a second look, why so much fuss about he playing Khan. this is all media hype. Indian dont think like this otherwise no khans including older khans would be what they are today. he is fantastic star, mind you not fantastic actor, Aamir is still better.

I don't think the reasoning is as simple as what Vinayak Khanna (interesting name!) mentions. I don't agree with all that Saisuresh writes but it's an interpretation which cannot be completely dismissed as "media hype". Everything about a name matters...it's not the media which forces movie characters to be named Ajay Sharma, Vicky Malhotra, or Raj Saxena. Central characters in Hindi movies seldom -- never -- have "offbeat" names like Ranjan Mohapatra, Sivarama Reddy or Shahid Husain without alluding to a communal theme, upbringing or a derogatory reference to their antecedents (possibly in the name of comedy). A Khanna, Malhotra, Sharma or a Srivastava would never have to face that kind of "scrutiny" and is supposedly more "acceptable" to the Indian audience. So, from that point of view, having a protagonist named Kabir Khan requires guts. But again SRK's audience these days is in the US and UK, so maybe this was done keeping the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in mind!!

just because you are not comfortable with things that doesn't mean whole world is not comfortable!, try and accept things in a positive way for some time, see how it feels, you may love life more than what you do now.
Some sensible M&Ms are talking about Humanity and are suggesting not to mix religion with anything.. Here is the situation... a) Muslims have their own Civil laws. b) Hindus have their own and so do christains..
Now lets take this hypothetical situation where one community is tolerant and believes in debate and court of law wants to evolve faster than the other community. But if they are living amongst others do the leaders of this country accept that the other less evolved communities remain as they are.. Especially concerned is the evolution of the freedom of women.. How shoudl the leaders lead this country.. Should they lead on communal lines or should they lead with a VISION OF PROGRESS COMMON FOR ALL OF ITS CITIZENs... This is the IRONY of not having common sets of laws. On top of that add the additional problems of people speaking different languages. On top of that add the problems of poverty and lack of access to basic amenities...
If the legal infrastucture of a country is evolved to a 21'st century standards common for all then people may still hate each other's religion but they will at least believe in the court of law which exactly the state in advanced democracies...
The problem with India Hindus who are Majority have not excercised the reponsibility of providing justice to its own people and hence all these problems are getting out of control...

its time for Uniform Civil Code. One law, applies to all. Kill religious polorisation & minority politics, once and for all.
why does the author in this article is trying to recolor the character of SRK in Chak De! India as a Muslim with woes due to his religion. Kabir Khan, whatever the name may suggest has always talked of only himself, as a person. When he says 'sabki nahin, sabki nahin', he hasn't said anything else. What this can only imply is that his even one mistake wasn't excused and not a muslim's one mistake; he doesn't say or imply any reason there, like if he wasn't a muslim, it would have been different etc. He throughout has emphasized on and believed in Indianity, he has never been shown directly, indirectly or even hinting at any mistreatment being delivered onto him for he was a Muslim. The M word has only reflected through his name and nowhere else, and still the author of this article wants to color the character of Kabir Khan as Muslim rather that Indian, in contrast to what Kabir Khan always wanted and did - promote Indianity over anything and everything else.

It is an outright copy of an English movie, and this Sharukh Khan as a Khan is being brought out as the highlight! What a pity!!

Acting may be the same but not the stroyline and if u continue to say that, then i cant help it u are one of those people who likes movies where juggling ciggarettes and killing 3 people with one bullet is possible
Hindustantimes %u201CShah Rukh Khan is outstanding %u2013 it%u2019s a performance that is comparable and at points even more internalised than the one in Swades. He carries the proverbial burden of the project on his shoulders. Intense and steel-like, he stays in character throughout, shunning any traces of glamour.%u201D
Rediff %u201CThis is also a return to glory for Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar doing excellently as he tackles a cast with (almost) entirely deplorable acting chops and makes you believe. Director Shimit Amin shoves a hockey stick into the actor%u2019s hand, and %u2014 fitter than he%u2019s looked in years %u2014 Khan flies across cinematic AstroTurf, and shines. Khan, of course, is King. This is a bravura performance, a gritty drive by an actor who clearly has sport in his blood. The fit of Shah Rukh as a hockey coach %u2014 inspiring, canny, frustrated, helpless and profoundly hopeful %u2014 is so naturally perfect that it%u2019s a wonder he hasn%u2019t done a sports film before. It%u2019s been a while since we%u2019ve seen him visibly relish a role like this, and while he has to mouth some clunky dialogue, Khan is simply super.%u201D
Indiatimes %u201CNo matter what SRK does%u2026 he does it with outright passion, without any inhibitions or fears and that is what makes him, his roles and films simply brilliant. Chak De India is an apt example of this trait of Shah Rukh%u2019s. It is the mere presence of this actor in a film which makes the difference. He raises a good film to a completely different height with his immense ability to get int

%u201CIf Shah Rukh the star, pulled you to the cinema hall, it%u2019s Shah Rukh the actor, who is gonna keep you gripped.
His over dose in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna that made him fall flat, is no where to be seen. Instead the man stands firm, stands tall and rises gracefully. The director has never tried to glorify the character Kabir. And SRK reflects that aptly. He was there for his own reason and was guided by his own reason.
So even if you%u2019re a non-SRK fan, you gotta go %u2018n see the guy perform. And if you still remain unconvinced, just tell me one actor who would have dared to risk a script which has no usual B-masala. The man knows his job and understands his strength!%u201D

%u201CShah Rukh Khan is exceptional. He is not your typical SRK in this one. Right from the look he carries in his eyes to his body language to the sarcasm laid dialogues he mouths, he delivers a knockout performance.%u201D
Idlebrain
Shahrukh Khan did the role of a brilliant coachwhose respect is battered by the misconception and the media. He is exceptional as an inspiring and tough coach. The actor in Shahrukh dominates the star in this film. It is nice to see Shahrukh Khan doing purposeful films like Swadesh and Chak De India once in a while.%u201D

%u201CSRK is the soul of CHAK DE INDIA. What you see on screen would be half of what it is without this matchless actor. He makes you feel what you are supposed to feel. A performance that%u2019s sure to go down as one of his finest works

hey apurva... long time no see. No dude Im not siding with the Jehadis at all, you always get me wrong. It was a treat watchin this movie, I had seen Swades and the emotions were so similar. Ive been living in the US since 2000 and man do I miss India. I actually went for the first show this Friday, it was sold out for a 3pm show and people cheered and the response was great. I dont care if SRK did it or Hritik, the movie spells patriotism, spks abt the importance of the Nation not the states... who cares abt Hindu-Muslim-Christian dude. Its the country we love.
I really appreciate the film . No doubt absolutely mind blowing. The only thing I would like to add here I am not sure this is write place to discuss. I have lot of Muslim friends. We enjoy everything together . We do parties, hangouts. One thing sometimes makes me you little fuzzy . I have equal respect for all religion . I visited several times in the masjed or church. When the times comes for these guys to respect our religion . They don't do that. Then you feel bad about it. I have friend with whom celebrated id. though I am a vegetarian. If you ask me do visit to masjeed I can see my god . I don't feel bad about. I know Its matter of personal choice Only one thing we should have equal respect for all religion.
ohh that article really puts things in perspective, absolute delight well done and a big THANK U. but can i say that ateast when it comes to our national passion cricket we do portray a fairly secular outlook, what with azhar, irfan and ZAHEER(today's superman)being the gods that they are.
