I am dying to watch this movie now, I am not a SRK fan but seems like he has acted well in this one. All we want is a good movie, no matter who acts in it and why. Think Bollywood is not on the down way anymore.
It was one of the best Bollywood films I've seen. I am one of the few a 'surving' Indian hockey fan and I thought it was based on Mir Rajan Negi the goalkeeper who took most of the blame for the Asian Games final in 1982 against Pakistan. But after watching the film I think it was more about Zafar Iqbal our skipper who was branded traitor by communal morons. Later in 1984 LA Olympics they again accused him of not wanting a India-Pak semifinal when he missed a sitter against Germany in the crunch game. A good movie dedicated to our hockey players who are true patriots inspite of no assistance or encouragement.
SRK played a pathan muslim 7 years ago in 'Hey Ram' (2000) starring KamalH. That character was as muslim as one can get and addressed the patriotism question too. So what is rediff trying to dissect out from this angle? The critic's statement "it has taken this long for SRK to play a muslim" is obviously incorrect. Better stick to the hockey part and leave religion out.

Try asking Javed Akhtar what's his opinion on Uniform Civil Code. If he rejects it which I suspect then why he wants to use the Courts get justice when he refuses to accept the mordern day UCC laws? Why this hyprocracy...

QandA, you seem to be a question in yourself.what has a uniform civil code got to do with this?. dont muslims follow the law ?.yes if they have a different way of marriage and divorce, so what? how does it affect anyone ?.even christians have a different way of marriage and divorce.dont you think you are more than unreasonable to force muslims to tow a uniform code ?

UCC means all nationals belong to one country called as India.. If different laws apply to different countries then there is NO ONE INDIA. People are just living together wihthin their own countries...

QandA u r a confused person!u want ucc for one india.i totally go for it.can u please tell also people to call themselves as indian first rather then calling themselves as from punjab, maharastra, gujrat etc....we have to change our systems as when a kid gets education in school we have to mention whether he is hindu, muslim, christian why is it not enough that we mention that he is indian.we are ourself creating a doubt in the mind of minors that the kid sitting next to him is diffrent then him.

Chup saale, why should we enforce a uniform civil code? Is there a necessity? Each community has their own rules and regulations. So live and let live. Don't incite passions here. Folks like u shud be first shot dead. Then they will be no communal tension at all in India.
The article is very interesting. The author is trying to get into SRK's thinking mind. Very apt. Like SRK in Chak De, all liberal muslims face huge dillema. The film is as much about coaching technique as the dillema every liberal muslim face in India in today's highly volatile political situation.
I thought SRK brought huge intelligence to his characterisation to the role. But I could not identify the exact element. I thing the author has brought that undercurrent in SRK's characterisation beautifully.

Everybody is entitled to personal opinion, but ultimately in a free market- majority matters!! Respect that.
LOL! And som folks say they don't make good films in Bollywood! That SRK is not a good actor. That RajiniGanth(LOL!) is the best. What impudence! Or is it ignorance? Or naivete? SRK is just stunning. No compare at all! He delivers with energy. he emotes with panache. That is what I called STYLE maan! He does no buffoonery like cigarette tossing, goggle juggling and other cheapo tricks. He is truly King Khan.

I fail to understand your logic if you have any. I like SRK as much as Rajni, and these two are entirely different stars catering to two non-overlapping markets. Each one has his own style and mannerisms- which their fans like and others despise, both are obviously successful. But why force a unwarranted comparison, unless you want to settle cheap scores?!

Not a question of settling cheap scores dude. This is just the truth. How can u compare someone as energetic as SRK with Rajini saaaar? I'm just trying to give an opinion. But some 'fans' wanna rake up a storm in a teacup...aka...Rajini in TN!

If you are saying abt the TAMIL actor Rajni.... you better watch a "K" serial by Balaji pro... but never watch those Tamil film...
Why judge a film on the Hindu-Muslim Criteria. It hardly matters if the character is a muslim Hindu or a Christian what should be seen is whether he jusfies the role or not.For me Shahrukh is my hero who is an Indian and who has just delivered a mindblowing performance. ChakDe is a classic which cannot be forgotten for a long time to come. As for the theme, I saw women's Liberation, national integration & a Spirit to win more than anything else. It is a film which unites, a film which takes us above the differences in religion, cast & creed. You remember all the dialogues but why did you forget what Kabir Khan says- Mujhe Kisi bhi State ka Naam nahin sunayee Deta, mujhe sirf ek naam sunayee deta hai, I-N-D-I-A. Try to be an Indian Mr.Sivaswamy.Atleast take inspiration from the movie itself,ChakDe India!

Why not? Why did SRK always played Hindu Characters? Can U imagine a black guy playing a White guys role in the West? What was the necessity of Yusuf Khan to rename a Dilip Kumar?

I agree with you. India won't be India anymore if all us indians start judging things based on religion.
We are all Indians first and then Hindu, Muslim, Sikh etc. Long live Indian unity!!!
