Taal doesn't fit here for sure. If Subhash Ghai had to pick one of his own Trimurty would have been an ideal one:). Sorry jokes apart Pardes/Karma were much better options. Those were good movies.
the Last Best Picture in the List is not correct but if the List is prepared by Subhash Ghai then ..... ok. i think Karma of subhash ghai rather than TAAL.sorrry subhash ji but i think its right
No wonder hindi movies don't have too much reality and sense-> when the perception of good movies is 'this' from so called good directors.I live in US and let me tell you the observation I have made. In USA there are different types of movies and they don't confuse one concept with another. Hindi movies fall into one category of hollywood films-its Teenage flicks!Imagine if you constantly beat the same and recycle it with mushy old dialogues from a much older man(fit enough to be teenage's dad)how can your cinema be regognized with respect?why did pyaasa run because it came from the heart the pain, insecurity and emotions were very well expressed. why was mani ratnam's movie included..because he writes reality..what exactly happens in India..he talks about India's problem and his college and teenage dialogues are of high IQ students who have an aim in life, its concepts are of people who are key in the development of India's technology..this is beacause he is educated. But what happens when the director has grown as a director by watching only more movies..?There is no individuality, no innovation, no talent and art dies!
Mother India, Dosti, Pyaasa, Sholay are on..HAHK, Ganga jamuna, Deewar, KKHH, Taal are not!! PLEASE....Taal was a disaster..Sorry Mr.Ghai, I would much rather put Lagaan and Black among the modern films along with Salaam Bombay and Mughal-E-Azam among the old ones..NOT TAAL!!!
Some of the films choosen by Ghai are no doubt but classics, but I do not approve of the last two films. Tall was by no means a classic if we bar the acting prowess of Anil Kapoor. The director's cut was not at all visible and even critics have ben quite vertical about their remarks. Apart from Anil, the only other saving grace that really contributed to the popularity of the film was A.R.Rehman's superbn music. Similarly though Kuch Kuch Hota Hain was a superhit at the box office, it does not comply with the tradition of being a 'great' film. The story and the presentation are nowhere near unique. Maniratnam's Dil se or for that matter Priyadarshan's Hera Pheri would have been agood choice instead since these movies defiend a new trend in Bollywood and added a new perspective to our sense of movies. "...and Brutus is an honourable man". So is Mr.Ghai. So with due respect to the man within him, I hope he would respect the views expressed above.
I don't understand why Bollywood fellows thinks they are the only one who make movies kya..!!! I am frm north india , but i watch all mani ratnam flicks and consider him much much better than most bollywood directors including Ghai.Ghai is more of commerical movie director with some standard formula in his movie..While Ratnam, even Ray are creative and make more sensible movies..Nayakan , Roja, Kannathil Muthumithal are way way better than most bollywood flicks..Eventhough i don't understand tamil much I am sure these movies better than atleast Ghai's list of Hum apke hain kaun and Kuch Kuch hota Hai and Taal
