It is pretty obvious from the list that Subhash Ghai doesnt know much about indian cinema. I am not sure whether the question was whether indian or just hindi cinema. Even if it is just hindi films, looks at the latter half of the films that he comes up with!! Having Taal in the best of hindi cinema! How crazy can that be! Probably taal is a reasonably good movie, but to tell that it is the best clearly indicates his bias. Even Maniratnam what all the movies he had done after hearing that he has been selected for Nayagan has said that the two americans who decided the best indian movies have no clue of what they are talking about! Look at him and Subhash Ghai. Clearly he is a showman
Mr.Ghai couldn't resist putting his movie among all those movies, could he??? Taal sucked compared to all those gr8 movies in the list and ya DDLJ should have definetly made the list...
I agree with some part of Mr.Ghai's list. But including Taal as one of the best films!!! Gimme a break!
I mean, Taal doesnt even come close to the other legends in the list.If he just wanted to include one of HIS films, then Karz would have been a good choice. It had brilliant performances, good music everything.
Top 10 are always a controversy. But this choice is idiotic. To exclude films like Do aankehn Barah Haath, Jis Desh Mein Gang Behti Hai( Incidentally, both much better films related to dacoits than Ganga Jamuna )and Jaagte Raho stinks. More so when crap like Taal, Dosti and Dilwale is included in the list.
While i am not a avid bollywood watcher, i've took to it 4m nineties.
So i don't opine on the first 6. But the last 4 don't deserve to be in the list at all. KKHH & HAHK were very good entertainers of their times and nothing more. They weren't masterpieces. And it doesn't seem good of a director to rate his own work. And Taal wasn't a great movie too. Deewar is a good movie but nothing extra-ordinary about it. A poor selection.
ROTFL! That's all I have been doing, this past five minutes since I saw that headline on ur main page touting Ghai's picks. More so, after I hear that he put his own Taal as No.10 in the list.
A lot of Indian directors, incl. one who actually was picked by Corliss and Schinkel have actually pooh poohed the list. First, the news is already 2 weeks old and you guys put this joke of a director up on ur main page and he actually picks one of his own movies at the expense of a zillion others. And one more thing, no non-bollywood movies in the list?
Rediff is steadily losing it in my eyes and this feature does not help its cause in any way.
I think u asked the hon. showman (?) to select from indian films and not hindi films. so i guess u need to go back again and ask him the same Q again, emphasising on INDIAN.
