kkhh? hakhk? taal?

What a sham list... These are the Best Indian movies? Or is it just the best bollywood movies? While no one disputes Mother India, Pyaasa, Kagaz Ke phool, Ganga Jamuna and Sholay, it is a sin to include trash like Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Taal and NOT including such masterpieces as "Meghe dhaka taara", Apu trilogy, Shatranj ke khiladi, Jaagte Raho and many gems of the regional language movies ; Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam among others. What shines through in this list is : a lack of awareness of the richness of the regional movies or a deliberate and misleading title for the series by rediff. Change it to the best of Bollywood and I'd have no arguments about a highly subjective issue like Subhash Ghai's or anyone else' choice of best Indian movies...

What about other Indian Language Films
by Hemanth on Jun 02, 2005 07:57 PM

Mr.Ghai seems to have a list of only Hindi movies. you should have given the title as Ghai best Hindi movies than Indian movies. There are many great movies in regional languages also.

I Disgree!!!

'Taal' was never one of the greatest films in Indian Cinema. Sure it was good in cinematography, music and other technical aspects but it was bad at Script or story, Editing (Worst editing ever) and Acting (Ash was celebrating somebody's funeral by being serious throughout , Akshaye Khanna was Okie-Dokie, Anil Kapoor was average)

While considering 10 greatest films, how could one not consider LAGAAN? It made every indian proud by being at the Oscars!!! Mr. Ghai seems to be have partial views about his cinema. I would rather consider him to select his other best creations like Karz, Karma, Hero or even Ram Lakhan for that matter.

What an irritating late entries!!!
by Praveen GK on Jun 02, 2005 07:36 PM

Mr Ghai's classics are unquestionable. God alone knows how he had the courage to include one of the worst movies - Taal in the top movies of the century. Pardes would have been a better choice if he wanted to include one of his movies.

Subhash Ghai's List
by Abhilash on Jun 02, 2005 07:34 PM

The last movie in the list was a little too much to digest. Taal wasn't ,in any sense, a movie which would be counted as one of the 10 best movies ever produced in India . But then again , for everyone their baby is the cutest . So keep it up Mr.Ghai . I am glad u dint mention Kisna!!

Knowledgeless list from Mr.Ghai
by vijay on Jun 02, 2005 07:33 PM

What sort of a list was that by Mr.Ghai...has he decided that 'Indian Cinema' means only 'Bollywood'...you come to the south for Rahman's music...but conveniently forget the Malayalam classics and other south indian greats when talking about movies...doesn't look good of a veteran filmaker of your calibre Mr.Ghai

Sorry Ghai

I dont think 'Taal' deserves to be in the list. Except for some great music, taal has got nothing in it.
