It is also essential that a parliamentary probe or CBI probe is initiated to see as to how much of the 5000 crs in 08-09 and the losses in the previous 5 years is siphoned off by the concerned minister

Why is AI so important... ?
by imran patel on Jul 07, 2009 08:06 PM  | Hide replies

The question is,
Why is AI so important that it cannot be allowed to fail, even if it mean throwing 1000 crores at it.

- AI is NOT a strategic asset
- AI is not vital to our National Security
- AI is not a profit making machine

AI is actually a hangup of the old communist mind set.

This 1000 crores is just one of the first installments. There will be more to come.

Mr. Patel was the Aviation Minister for the last 4 years. Why did he not see this coming ?

The sole purpose of AI is to provide employment at the expense of the Tax payers.
The government is scared to take steps against the Union body. That is the sole reason behind this 1000 crore influx.

They will ask for more in the near future. Mark my words.

You are correct Imran! If you look at the actual demand made by FOOL Patel was 10000 crores. So this may be first of the 10 installments!!

Wow! We have just been looted by 500 Rs each.
by shailesh agrawal on Jul 07, 2009 08:03 PM

Considering a loss 0f 5000 Crores this year by Air India and 10 Crore as Tax paying population of India, Government this year alone has lost each of ours 500 Rs each in drain.

Revamp is a joke.
by Speak sense on Jul 07, 2009 07:57 PM  | Hide replies

Revamp? No! ! ! Not at all. What AI needs is a complete overhaul. If that cannot be done (which is more likely due to bureaucracy), AI should be converted to a low cost airline flying only on domestic routes and within indian subcontinent. Not fit for any international route given the delays and late running and "excellent" customer service.

To survive, any airline must be safe, punctual and provide efficient service. Air India is always reporting technical snags in its aircraft, its punctuality is pathetic and its service is only for its own staff or for Government of India functionaries. Paying passengers be damned.

Air India to revamp top brass
by ramaswamy sunderrajan on Jul 07, 2009 07:56 PM  | Hide replies

In all the hype, the major factor for Air India's problem, namely the high man power per air craft will be glossed over ad only the top management tossed around. AI needs to shed work force. It needs to bring in a new work culture that will help it to manage with far lesser staff.Political interference has rightly been pointed out as another cause. will Mr Praful Patel guarantee that such a political interference will not take place in future? With out such steps no other kind of cosmetic changes will bring life to the ailing AI

You are right. The politicians have persuaded the highly paid staff of Air India to be rude and indifferent to the needs of passengers. These crooked politicans should be blamed for everything.

That is completely correct. However, we want to start with Air India as its indolent and boorish employees have the highest salaries in India.
