We all know the reason and yet we all follow them only. I was reading the comments and surprisingly we have covered all the topic and blamed everyone rather then saying that the reason is us that even after knowing the reason we don't do anything.........anyhow good luck to people who are depressed as i am not and i am very much satisfied and happy with my life

yes it is true, indians in other countries are very smart but in their own country very depressed, many reasons and mainly the politicians who are eating and selling their own country, not worried for aam janta. shyena
I agree India is the most depressed. I just hate hate hate the education system. I feel like a slave in my college!! and if u dont work your parents are all set to be disgusted with you.
The reason for such depression is caste and caste based priveleges, corruption, a pessimistic 2G-crazy media who keep on reporting negative things, inequality promoted by religion based politices, ideologies like Hindutva are the great reasons for such depression.

hindus are most happiest in whole world yet.crist and musi are fight with each other.and hindus festivals make them happy every time.you know how many festivals of hindus.muslim has ramjan and cristion has crismas.

godwho your intuition is absolutely correct and that is what the original survey also showed (see at biomedcentral site) On reading the original survey we find that the above news article is wrong because the survey shows that only 25% respondents from India (which is the best figure in the world) have had any single instance of depression and only 9% have persistent depression. Hence the survey actually says Indians are among the least depressed in the world (as opposed to US and France which are the most depressed). But the rediff article above says the opposite!! that's how good the editing is!
your figure of 36% in the story above is wrong. It is only 25% and among the 18 countries taking the survey, India were THE BEST! not the worst as you are saying. 36% refers to the prevalence of chronic depression amongst those who have had at least one instance of depression in their lives. As for Chronic (Lifelong prevalent) depression, only 9% Indians mention it. That is among the best in the world again, though not the best. And finally, the data was taken only from Pondicherry (JIPMER) hence whether it represents India is itself questionable. C'mon now- I trust all the Indian publications will be correcting this wrong report now - can you be the first to do so?????
India is coming on world map, individually Indians are best among perfects, but our political and administrative system is not coming to todays requirement, reforms are far away, therefore sometimes depression prevails, but does not reduce the enthusism of Indians.

very well said this exactly what is happening its pity but true our own leaders are taking away the wealth making aam janta's life depressive they are the real culprits for such situation
