Depression
by ASHWANI BHAN on Jul 28, 2011 12:35 PM

I strongly believe that Depression in India is due to the fact that children born of very young mothers do not grow into healthy adults. There threshold of coping with pressures in life is non-existent coupled with the strong competition for everything in India the result is inevitable and so WHO is spot on in there report.Pranayama & Yoga can help individuals to cope with it.But the situation is serious and needs to be analysed thoroughly and corrective measures taken to ensure that this serious malaise is eliminateds from the country

MMS will go down in history as the most thick skinned, shameless, servile, nepotist, corrupt, apathetic, spineless person to ever rule a civilized nation in the world.

India Most depressed
by Jaideep Mathur on Jul 28, 2011 10:03 AM

Indians are most depressed because we want to be heard. We feel we are suppressed. Because - our civil servants dont do their job properly though we pay for the services by way of tax. Media is not interested in doing anything about it. Policy makers are interested in only finding out newer ways to make more personal money. In private enterprise people want to earn with out slogging, basically they want easy money, promotion & recognition. Few are able to achieve it & those who dont, feel depressed. It is also about meeting our aspirations without acually working for them.

This story is not correct
by RTWS on Jul 28, 2011 10:02 AM  | Hide replies

The numbers mentioned in this story are plain false. The report says India has one of the four lowest prevalence of depression - less than 10%

Google BioMedCentral to read the report. The report is free and on page 14 information about India is provided.

Such lazy journalists we have! They'll make a poll but wont actually bother reading the report.

By the way The Independent is responsible for starting this false story, as best as I can tell. All the Indian sites are blindly rebroadcasting this falsehood.

It could be a mistake or it could be something done on purpose.

Any Indian paper that has got this story correct is a good paper in view, and can be trusted. Their journalists have actually read the report before reporting on it.

Think for yourself! Ask questions and seek answers! 36% means 2 out of 5 people. If you know 50 people then the claim is that 20 of them are depressed. Does that make any sense ?

Absolutely right RTWS. I read the original report too. Only 25% of the respondents from India mentioned having at least one depression incident in their lifetimes. That figure is the lowest in the world. It means that 75% of Indians have not had a single instance of depression. 9% have had chronic (lifelong prevalence), which is among the lowest in the world again. The figure of 36 being toted is probably 9/25, ie among those having at least one time, how many have lifelong.

Indians greediest and sickest, uncultured people
by pulakesi on Jul 28, 2011 09:48 AM  | Hide replies

India is a Sick place to live. You know how people live in Metro cities like Mumbai Delhi and Chennai. These are like termite hills teaming with crores of people living in filthy conditions like animals.

Mumbai especially , is a huge slum. And you spend all your money you earn in travel and housing.

Food comprises of fried things which are most unhealthy, sanitation does not exist, infrastructure is shambles and peoples' attitude in general is sick.

Most selfish and greedy nation on the earth.

Obviously then its the most depressing place on earth.

Talking on forums helps bring out issues, gives people an opportunity to express themselves but what's next.....i'm guessing it ends the moment you log off the internet. We all need to have that burning desire to bring about change and that change starts with me.

Peeasement
by B Mohan on Jul 28, 2011 09:37 AM  | Hide replies

The inequality among the citizen is the main cause of the depression. These are due to the appeasement policies of the Shaikh-ul-ar govt
There are a number of appeasement policies with govt, but mainly they are
Caste appeasement
Religious appeasement
Gender appeasement
Stop these appeasement, Indians too will live peacefully.

Britain is a terrorist state. Like the United States of America, Britain is an ally for the terrorist state of Israel. She is killing innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, for their oil and natural gas and this amongst other things, are affecting the lives of native and British-NRI's in the United Kingdom.
