Indians LEAST depressed according to the survey
by Antistupidity on Aug 01, 2011 05:29 PM

The survey referred above article can be read at the website biomedcentral
it says the opposite of what the article above is saying. it says that only 25% Indians have ever had even one single instance of depression, meaning that 75% Indians have not had depression even one time.
This figure of 25% is the best in the world as per the survey, and the most depressed country is US and France.
So why are the media saying the wrong things?
And why are so many of our readers believing what the article says.
why cant you read the original survey and find out.
fine - we can still have a debate here whether indians are depressed or not and why, but please be informed that the survey actually said that Indians are LEAST DEPRESSED.

Depression what the hell is it for Indians
by manish kaushik on Aug 01, 2011 06:37 AM  | Hide replies

It might be true that surviving in India is just not a easy task. But that does not say that India is a depressed and asaddest nations.Switzerland ,US etc these are the countries where peopel get depressed and infact these are the saddest nations.Bcoz life in these countries is very easy and people just don't have a social life at all unlike India.Indian is the most adaptive of all Human Beings on this earth. He just don't have time to get depressed. He has to struggle every day for his survival , for his social obligations.India is a country where u see so many terrorist attacks each day.So many scams where public money is looted by politicians still Indian goes on.Because we know how to survive. We Indians are the boldest creature on this earth to face the pressure so those are fools who say inidians are the most depressed of all.

The problem lies in our mindset and our history
by Aditya on Aug 01, 2011 03:10 AM  | Hide replies

There are various reasons why Indians are the more depressed :-
1. Living condition in India is quite bad. We have to work very hard for our living. Unlike other developed countries, we dont get any help or support from our government and we have to save ourselves for our retirement.
2. There is too much poverty in India. Here we can get people to do any kind of job if we pay them well. Here there are people who are ready to do anything for money. The reason being poverty. We see so many poor people daily and we cant do anything about it. We fear one day we may also be like them hence we try to make as much money as possible in every possible way.
The reason for both the above points is that India is a poor country. The foreigners, especially the British, have looted all our wealth and taken back to Britain. It is said that in the four minars of Taj Mahal, there were tonnes of gold and silver stored and the British took them all. In fact they had got permission to break the Taj Mahal and transport the Marbles back to Britain, which was stopped at the last minute.

Repeated loots from the foreigners before Independence meant that India started off as a very poor country post independence. We supply dont have the money to buy food for our complete population. The solution to this is as below :-
1. Get all our wealth back from the foreigners. The reason why Britain and America and other developed countries are enjoying their lives is because they had the money to develop all the infrastructure in a planned way. We should be more aggressive and get back what is truly ours. For this we need a very aggressive leader, someone like a king. We should attack our neighbouring countries and loot all their resources and use them for India's benefit.
That is the only way Indians can enjoy their lives in India. Or else we will have our children going out of India to lead a better live. Another major war in the region will give us a chance to accumulate more riches and shift the power balance from the Whites back to India. Indians have suffered for too much and for too long and we need a leader who can do anything to provide India with the best living condition.

dude these nations are not enjoying.Ask enjoyment from a middle class working guy in India when he gets his monthly salry. He will tell u what enjoyment. These are human emotions which can't be values by money. The more u work hard for sth the max happiness u get when u earn it.Morevere when u spend that money judiciouly among ur family and relatives ur happiness doubles.Americans and Britishers what will they know about social life and happiness.Hard work that is sth which americans and britishers left long time back .That is why they are so scared of we indians that they are getting srtict on immigration each day yet can't stop it as there country doesn't produce sound, knowledgable and hard working youths.People make the country not vice versa.

OK agreed that hard work is good..
but arent we Indians(working in private sector/middle/upper middle class) over worked?
2hrs travelling in congested roads.working 10 hrs a day..six days a week.
Virtually no social life.
Private life frequently interrupted by official calls/emails in ur Blackberry.
You may be having a luxurious villa ..in which you go just to sleep..an SUV/luxury sedan in which u crawl at 30 kmph..children you see awake only on weekends..children who are at the mercy of domestic helps and never get taught what is right what is wrong, what is good what is bad.
Atfer ur productive years u ll b left with stress related illness, your children staying away from you busy with their work.Ur bank balance will hardly suffice for ur medical and other expenses.(Considering the present inflation rate)

What Im trying to say is about striking the work-life balance.
Its not impossible but the current situation in India is making it extremely difficult.

We should be hard working ,but if we dont keep our life simple well never b ble to escape from this rat race.

Indians have no say in their country. Their country is run by a foreigner, where the minority rule over the majority. It gets kicked aroung by much smaller countries like Banglades, S-Lanka, Pak etc.

India has still with few traditions /culture left that is keeping the families together so far. Going forward it will be difficult to keep these values as they are fading away due to so many things that are affecting us day to day. Adding to those, unfortunately, the top (Politicians) has been always corrupt and that tradition was passed to small poticians and beurocrats and eventually the whole system became corrupt and disfunctional. This has affected the middle, lower middle class and poor people so much that even for small needs they have to really struggle. That is very very unfortunate. In fact, it is not that difficult to bring the system back. Once you have strict law and orders in the country, it will help in running the system that functions in a correct manner. That means, we need to have heavy penalties, capital punishement for serious crimes. And it should start from the top. And every one at the lower level will fear the law and start functioning correctly. No need for great sacrifices. Common man will support these changes. So why top need to wait to implement these changes.

Depressed nation !
by Kaushika on Jul 31, 2011 09:27 PM

With the likes of Kalmadi, Raja, Yedyyurappa, Mayawati in the news everyday coupled with an ineffective and incompetent PM and a president who is a worn out rubber stamp, rising prices, patetic infrastructure and no visible way out of the mess the nation is in, is it any wonder that we are a depressed lot ! I have a suggestion .. legalize marijuana :-)
