Being SAD, being in Misery is totally differrent thing than depression. Agree, India would be on Top in terms of sadness, misery in life, but in depression.. WHO study is complete non-sense, they should review their study methods

Self made depressions
by Rajendra Nayak on Jul 28, 2011 09:28 AM

Every human being has mood swings and there should be an outlet. There should be large number of counselling professionals free or paid.
In India if you talk to your neighbor, the next ay it will be known to all. The next are the tantriks/mantriks/sooth healers who exploit and if it is a female rape her.
There are no playgrounds to play, parks to walk and swimming pools to swim and sitting at home the dejected become more and more depressed. In many cases the family members themselves are worse trying to hit the child which will become much more depressed.
But we will be a super power in the next decade!

Take up meditation/Yoga. Also make sure U take anti-depressants under the direction of a trained psychiatarist. U could kill your self if U prolong this episode.

One reason for unhappiness and depression...
by Tom Dick on Jul 28, 2011 09:15 AM  | Hide replies

One reason for unhappiness and related drpression is the unfair competition for survival in India. Parents expect their children to be number one in class. They expect all of them to be doctors or engineers. They want all of them to be crictet players etc. When parents (due to peer pressure and society's expectation) push their children beyond their capabilities, there will be a natural reaction. To survive in India with such competion is a very daunting job. However, by and large Indians are capable of handling such situation and don't think the figures mentioned in the article really reflects India's real picture.

I fully agree with your points, specially that Indians are capable of coming out of depression.

Certainly the figures are not a real picture of India. It is true that the stiff competition make the urban people very depressed and the expectations of our family...but our value system gives us enough upport to deal with it and if compared to other countries we dont end up our lives easily by committing suicide...INDIANS are definitely capable of handling it.

GOOD LEADER
by New Jersey on Jul 28, 2011 07:44 AM  | Hide replies

u need young guns in the country to lead india. Not some1 who is 60-70 years old on how long he's gonna live?the retirement age should be reduced.Illiterate people should not be allowed to join politics. If some1 wants to join politics for money and bribery, watch the steps to join politics.
1) The person should be highly qualified and should not need support from another party.
i.e. Ph.D or lesser than that with ability to lead.
2) He or She must've served the Indian Army for at least 5 years. Some1 grazing a cow or buffalo cannot come and join politics.
3) He or she must be a person who has the capacity to serve the largest democracy in the world.
4) There should NOT BE EVEN more terrorist attack from any neighboring country/ies.
5) There r more .... qualities...
PM.

people are illiterate , yes but phd wont solve problem

school curriculam has to be changed, physics chemistry maths and english and language will not make you right personality.
social classes must, every child before finishing 12th he must know the discipline, and honesty and truthful ness, unless you are honest and your wants are limited becoming a good citizen will not be possible.purely brought up important, very few citizens are disciplined , honest and good behaviour. here comes good school education with all round performance, behaviour with peers and good in sports and debates and quiz and what not , every child must excel in all activities , then at least 10% good citizens you will get, jealous, hatred, all should be removed from child when he grows, and give and take policy, so many good habits has to be taught before he leaves school otherwise waste.first of all students and children never respect their parents and grand parents , so parentsis are to be strict and as well as lenient. yardstick is important.

In addition to all the local problems that the Indian public faces on a daily basis that cause depression, there are the imported problems brought on by the negative aspects of a Western-style corporate stress culture, habits and diet without the corrsponding Western conveniences and amenities which might offset the Western portion of the stresses to a certain extent. All these sresses (Western and local) are causing distress to a number of working persons and are having a negative impact on the traditional family oriented stable culture.

prices r increasing for no result..
by New Jersey on Jul 28, 2011 07:29 AM

prices of all commodities have increased. The price increases 2 times within a month. if a price is 4/- it will be 8/-. Salary actually decreases looking at the pattern.
that is price is inversely related to salary...lol
