I believe even a few years ago we had laws against female workers working night-shifts. I'm not sure if they're still in place, but even without them we're not better off. Our society is unwilling to accept that women can work out of home at night, forgetting the fact that it is *we* who make it unsafe for women at night. I hope for change - maybe someday. It will be great for our growing economy, as well as for female empowerment.

Education in India
by aurigo auri on Dec 15, 2009 08:53 PM

The people who see Western World or expose to the Western World , Infact Western Cities are just exposed to cities , u mean a guy stays in Sanjose is just exposed that cities are simillar cities not completely as US Country.
Even US has lot of issues , u can see better roads and buildings but Economy and sustainability is always a question mark.
People are more afraid , People are more worried , since it is a materialistic world .
The economy rules runs these countries are materialistic .
Abviously education system is better , not the depth of education . u mean a student talks on social issues is considered as great , but education and economy is constantly changing / mutant , a materialistic world will change to some other dimension. so India should get better infrastructure , ie India has to change according to Westren world is wrong.
The guy who is answering need to analyse world in better way.
Keep going INDIA , u have great future.

Educational System
by Gopi Pillai on Dec 15, 2009 03:51 PM  | Hide replies

Why is it said that ten heads in India are equal to one head in China in terms of skill
and efficiency. Is it due to the educational
system practiced in India? Or has it got anything to do with our genetic make up? If our education system is so much poor, why is it that more Indians are able to shine in advanced countries like the US? And why is it that many parents in other countries countries are now sending their wards to get educated in India? Can someone clarify this paradox? Gopinathen Pillai

Not a paradox at all...

It it the CIRCUMSTANCES.

The Circumstances / Context / Environment in India is completely geared towards making the common man subservient to the Government and its employees. THE WAY BRITISHERS WANTED.

When Indians go abroad, the CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE and they EXCEL.

Educational System
by noji mathew on Dec 15, 2009 12:20 PM  | Hide replies

Education upto 15 should be free to all. Hospital treatment should be free to all Citizens for Major Diseases(Can make a list of this). Both of these can be done by State Govts by linking to any Insurance Company going for a global tender. For All type of reservations, Caste system should be abolished. Caste and creed should be considered as private matters. But all whom are backward in money should be supported. Politicians need vote for thier survival, will give more priority to caste system. Since it is a collective vote bank. Beleive in GOD. Communities like Christians, Muslims and Hindus are not there in India. Christ, Buddha or Allah never preached to help their community. Never preached to start thier own educational institutions or medical colleges. And mistakenly calling as minority rights and so on. But service is mandatory. They can help with money to upgrade the Governmental Insitutions. Why want to do business seperately?

Sir,
Can understand ur concern for the society and country. Think of Islamic values and their production system will become unabated. Your hard earned & taxed income will be utilised for free medical and education. In other words while u are trying to be a responsible citizen, the other community has seldom been one.

Why are educational institutes owned by Politicians?
by Jas on Dec 15, 2009 10:55 AM

Because they alone can get myriad licenses required to run one.

This is the reason good honest people stay away from setting up EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES.

Infact govt. of india (and therefore politicians) - has a stated policy to keep HARVARDS, STANFORDS from coming to india, because it hurts their Third Rate Politician Owned Colleges.

Just check almost ALL private Medical and Engineering Colleges are owned by Politicians.

I suppose god should build our roads, houses, etc... and provide you electricity, food and water by magic out of thin air because we were unable to provide for ourselves. You fail to realise the value of education as the critical constituent of the good life. Live in the middle ages buddy

Whether the rich fund temples or shrines should not be any of his concern. It is their money! They can spend it on what they want.

Who does he think funds the mosques? India's rich muslims and the rich Saudi family.

Who funds the large Cathedrals and churches? It is the rich Christians from all the different denominations - Baptist, Mormons, Pentacostals, Seventh day adventists ...

The Government of India which should be a neutral body takes the 'tax payer' money and funds Muslim Haj pilgrimage so why should the India's rich not fund their own temples.

Anyway why is the government of India not use that money to set up good educational institutions?

Majority of American institutions are "State Universities". Even those endowed American universities take money from the US government.

Not True
by SUJEESH NARAYANAN on Dec 15, 2009 08:43 AM

Your head line is not true.If that was the case India will be far more backward. The rich may not be doing what they could eventually do ,but many are contributing more than what they need to, to educate the under poverished. The Govt. has it\'s duties apart from collecting taxes. What is it doing with the education cess? I have not seen any marked difference in the education sphere after the collection of cess, maybe the officials are getting richer at the cost of education.
