Education why?
by Timothy Shaw on Dec 15, 2009 06:38 AM

I believe we need to educate our inmost being our conscious rather market on it. It is necessary to have ethical & moral standard which need to be educated. Some one said every child is born as a intelligent person. But how we are molding and nurturing a child that is what education is all about. That is why after reading your artical it appears today to live this global village education has become a necessary EVIL.

American Education better than Indian?
by Bhavesh nayak on Dec 15, 2009 06:07 AM  | Hide replies

Is american education really better than indian education? May be in some ways, do not forget that there are teen pregnancies, and wide spread drug/substance abuse even in america....May be you are comparing elite schools, but public funded american schools are in many ways worse off than indian schools. Atleast the indian parents force kids to concentrate on science and math or education in general....american kids are busy sexting and griding their behinds in disco's.

Do you ever listen to yourself? he is not talking about values but the actual academic education. Much of the values education is imparted by parents. Academic education is imparted by schools, universities, etc. It is because of people like you that cannot take criticism that indian education remains shallow.

Relax northie...I have been living in the US for 10 years now, and have seen the education system. How long have you been here? I see fear in the eyes of the american parents whose kids ride on a heavy dose of sex, entertainment, and drugs. Today's american schools are teaching abstinence before marriage, promoting science and math, and saying no to experimentation with drugs...if these are not values then what else is? Are you telling me that values are not part of education? I agree that there are certain good things about american education like creative thinking, but praising a system just based on its positive qualities is shallow thinking which you are prone to as well...

Hi,

I would not like to generalise too much with regards to elite/non elite and American versus Indian univs. You get all kinds everywhere. However, Western education does seem to have knowledge acquiring and utilisation quite bereft of any career orientation as one of its objectives. There is an orientation to reasearch, creativity and originality. This is hardly to be found in Indian schools (even the best) where education is seen solely as a means to further ones career. Maybe this explains why there are so many Nobel prize winners (be they Asians) from Western univs.

Cheers
Neeraj Tyagi

Military should take away all the money of temple, relegious body. And give it to Tata, Reliance to build world class training institute which train unempolyed youth on job skills, sports, how to help build beautiful home ie our India. How to be desciplin, responsible citizen. It will solve 60% of our problem. Our life will become a lot simpler, easier.

That's why many of the intelligent people have left India for other countries, so that India can be the land of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and all other Backward Classes as Gandhi wanted it to be.

Mr. Sharma do not create unnecessary fuss with your idiotic statement. Do not claim your self to part of 21st century Shining and rising India, if you cannot come out your prejudice. Hope that make sense.
