We think
by fun lover on Dec 14, 2009 11:38 PM

We think American education system is good, but it is pathetic till the undergraduate level. Only Graduate and higher level is fine. Just imagine, many American students in third year of undergraduate engineering do not even know partial differentiation! Enough said.

When you donot have anything logical to say you comment like this.

Does this guy have the guts to question how much is spent oh Haj and how much xtians spend on conversions? Those money too can be used for the developement of the youth of this country. Isn't it? Why single out temples?

tarun is True

I agree to Tarun. We really do not have along term plan for education and we really do not have national education agenda. here we have a mindset that aperson graduating from north east universities will not be given at par compare to universities in metro. a similar syllabus is generating a diversity in its own bcoz of quality factor. a national and over all planning is need of the day. it will need pure political and social initiative. most disturbing thing is that rather planning we(not only politician) are coming up with drives to educate sometimes in the form educating adults upto nominal education. sometimes in the form of providing mid day meals (quality ?), sometimes free railway passes etc. we are just not working to strengthen the roots.

Whether the rich fund temples or shrines should not be any of his concern. It is their money! They can spend it on what they want.

Who does he think funds the mosques? India's rich muslims and the rich Saudi family.

Who funds the large Cathedrals and churches? It is the rich Christians from all the different denominations - Baptist, Mormons, Pentacostals, Seventh day adventists ...

The Government of India which should be a neutral body takes the 'tax payer' money and funds Muslim Haj pilgrimage so why should the India's rich not fund their own temples.

Anyway why is the government of India not use that money to set up good educational institutions?

Majority of American institutions are "State Universities". Even those endowed American universities take money from the US government.

Basic Questions....
by Suresh on Dec 14, 2009 11:18 PM

Tarun seems to be looking through colored glasses. There are plenty of organizations in India, who are working towards the education system. Azim Premji Foundation is doing great work. So is a Smaller org called OSAAT run by a group of young people in US and Bangalore and there are many more.

The fundamental question to be asked is why is the Govt allocating less than 3% of GDP towards education. According to UNESCO India has the lowest public expenditure on higher education per student in the world. Is this because the politicians do not want educated people, lest they start voting intelligently?

What is Tarun and other intellectuals doing about this?

How enlightened!! Have you listed all the nobel prize winners in the past 100 years and see how many are Indians as opposed to Americans? Please tell me which of the following are inventions of Indians? Electricity, Telephone, Nuclear energy, Automobiles, Airplanes, Computers, Internet. Yes all these were products of vulgar, sex-enthused, debauchery filled western society. I am sure like all Indians you will have excuses ready.
