Good Suggestion
by Praveen Goud on Dec 14, 2009 04:36 PM  | Hide replies

Amount donated to place of worship has to be used for the upliftment of the society through investment on education, medical camps etc., instead of making the politicians , chairman , board members , endowments swallowing the amount directly or enjoying the disciples donations by pawning as happened in Tirupati for an example.

For instance, just one priest in Tirupati pawned 10 necklaces . Imagine, how much irregularities might be happening from board chairman, its board of members and endowments depatments?. To cover this, petition on behalf of people grievance has been nicely covered by another corrupted and collapsed indian judiciary by declaring the total values of tirupati ornaments as 50 or 100 crores(not sure) when average per day collection will be more than 50 lakhs.

Amount donated to the place of worship should be utilized for the pooja of god and religious purpose not for the upliftment of society.

Re: Would any learned person would enhance my knowledge
by Traps on Dec 14, 2009 04:38 PM
I do not know the answer to the questions you posted.

But what is its relevance in education?

Do you know how much money is spent each year in repairing public properties destroyed by agitators?

How much money is wasted every year when mindless criticism eats into the parliament hours?

All this money will be ten times that related to Haj etc.

Wich we could save those.

There are Many - This is a Myopic View
by Suresh Vasisht on Dec 14, 2009 04:21 PM  | Hide replies

Tarun seems to be looking through colored glasses. There are plenty of organizations in India, who are working towards the education system. Azim Premji Foundation is doing great work. So is a Smaller org called OSAAT run by a group of young people in US and Bangalore and there are many more.

The fundamental question to be asked is why is the Govt allocating less than 3% of GDP towards education. According to UNESCO India has the lowest public expenditure on higher education per student in the world. Is this because the politicians do not want educated people, lest they start voting intelligently?

What is Tarun and other intellectuals doing about this?

he has admitted he never went to school and college regularly but graduated with first class. he must have been immuned to the merit based education, due to the central schools and kendriya vidyalayas, to which he got automatic admissions. is he aware in india government takes away the temple funds through endowments department, but does not touch non hindu relgious institutions. Instead of government taking away the temple funds, if they are let alone, temples alone will run schools.

Tejpal is not entirely correct
by chandrasekaran v on Dec 14, 2009 04:10 PM  | Hide replies

In many States, especially Southern States, have Hindu Religious Endowments Act,whereby the local State Govts.take over management of the temples. For instance, the richest temple of India i.e. Tirupathi, caters to various needs of the citizens of the country (not only Andhra Pradesh) by way of hospitals, medical colleges, university, apart from preserving the culture and art of India. By taking over these temples, the Govt. employees also receive salary etc. out of the funds donated to the temples. Whereas, the same is the case in respect of other religions. Even if some religion places of worship run schools/hospitals etc. most of them charge high fee for the purpose. WHy Tejpal ignores the ecnomic activity (even if the temples are not under Govt.control) generated thus providing employment/financial benefit to millions irrespective of caste/cadre/creed.

i wish tarun is reading this response. contrary to his perception, in India several temples and religous institutions run schools and indirectly help primary education. ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), a Bangalore based Radha Krishna temple trust, provides mid day meal to over one lakh, i repeat one lakh primary school students in Bangalore. In Hyderabad, the number is about thirty thousand, and they are awaiting allotment of just a two acre piece of land, so that they can enlarge their kitchen and provide meals to one lakh students. Satya Sai Baba's institution at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh runs schools and colleges providing totally FREE education up to graduation level. They even run a super speciality hospital which has NO CASH OR PAYEMNT COUNTERS AT ALL!
If the endowments department of the government does not take over the temple funds, and leave rich temples alone, each temple will run a school. His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Chinna Jeer has commenced construction of a vedic school near Hyderabad Internation airport, which will provide totally free education up to graduation, for 6000! yes, you read it right, six thousand students! i can go on quoting several such instances which, as a journalist he can very well verify, and instead of shooting off his lip, his ignorance and lies, he may better realize the truth. God bless such liars and ignorant fellows!
