Ganguly's County cricket career in England was not a success. In "The Wisden Cricketer" [2] it was described as follows: "The imperious Indian - dubbed 'Lord Snooty' - deigned to represent Lancashire in 2000. At the crease it was sometimes uncertain whether his partner was a batsman or a batman being dispatched to take his discarded sweater to the pavilion or carry his kit bag. But mutiny was afoot among the lower orders. In one match Ganguly, after reaching his fifty, raised his bat to the home balcony, only to find it deserted. He did not inspire at Glamorgan or Northamptonshire either. At the latter in 2006 he averaged 4.80 from his four first-class appearances."

Dravid is way ahead of Ganguly in test matches. These Ganguly supporters are ecstatic after his performance against weak bowling attacks of england and pakistan.
England were without Harmisson, Simon Jones and Flintoff.
Pakistan were without Umar gul and Mohamad Asif and a half fit Shoaib Akthar.
The ganguly supporters are making a hill out of a mole.

wow, so how does it work,
these bowlers bowl only to Ganguly and leave the field, the unfit become fit and bowl so well to the rest that they perform however they did right?

In the current scenario, I wud say yes pathan is a better bet than dravid. if u feel that cricketing sense shud prevail, then we shud also take in amol muzumdar from mumbai or someone from elsewhere who have a better average in domestic matches than dravid but never got the chance to play for india.ultimately whoever performs is the player one shud back

It seems in the next match if Tendulkar scores 10 runs and Harbhajan scores 20 runs, you would bet on harbhajan as a good player than tendulkar.
Will the scenario see tendulkar as an exception???
Oh boy If amol muzumdar has to be inducted what about badrinath for tendulkar.

Playing great against Shoaib, Anderson,Tremlett bouncers skywards.
Then safest in hands of a fielder.....

pak test scene...

42.4 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, OUT, Again he backs away, Shoaib fires in a full pitched delivery on the leg stump, Ganguly misses to connect with his heave and the leg stump is pegged back. Kumble has declared.
SC Ganguly b Shoaib Akhtar 46 (58b 4x4 0x6) SR: 79.31
42.4 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, 1 no ball, Ah! Drama. Ganguly moved outside leg stump and Shoaib followed him with a bouncer and Ganguly ducked and fell over on his backside DADA COUNTING STARS IN BROAD DAY LIGHT..

42.3 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, no run, moves outside leg stump, Shoaib sends a slower one on the stumps, tapped to backward point

By all your comments you have exposed your poor understanding of cricket, specially you have shown your incapability of understanding and appreciating statistics.

Ganguly scored approx 6350 runs which include approx 900 runs agains B'desh and Zimba... Thus 85 % of the runs were scored against Australia, England, W Indies, Pakistan, NZ and S Africa. He has been playing for India since 1996, that is to say he is playing against all the bowlers from Australia, England, Pak, NZ, S Africa besides BD and Z. You may note that like other Indian batsmen, he did not score against Zaheer, Pathan, RP and Sreesanth. It is OK not to understand and appreciate Statistics, but coming forward with some comments and/or statistical data without any knowledge in the area does not look good for the commentator.

Ganguly Controvesy
by Prasad Manokaran on Dec 23, 2007 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

Over the last few years, fast bowlers around the world have worked out a simple plan to dismiss Sourav Ganguly: pitch it short, attack his body, make him hook or pull, and then watch as he either defends clumsily or attempts an ungainly hoick and gets himself out. The idea isn't terribly original, but it has worked so often that Ganguly's weakness against short deliveries has become an open secret among the fast-bowling fraternity. Ganguly has often tried to defend himself on that charge by arguing that it doesn't matter how a batsman looks while playing a stroke; what counts is the number of runs he scores and the number of times he's dismissed. Well, if that is Ganguly's defence, then he will be pretty disappointed with the numbers below.

In all one-day internationals since September 2001 (excluding the matches in the ongoing Videocon Cup tri-series), Ganguly's stats against the short balls present a pretty dismal picture - 143 runs from 128 balls with 12 dismissals at an average of less than 12. Among the Indian top-order batsmen, his stats are easily the worst.

Ganguly is clearly ill at ease when playing the short stuff, but what makes his case even worse is his insistence on playing the hook or pull, strokes which are clearly low percentage for him. Ganguly's overall runs per dismissal when playing the hook or pull is 25.33 (304 runs, 12 outs), but most of those runs have come off back-of-a-length deliveries. When bowlers have dug it in short, Ganguly has been al

Ganguly Controvesy
by Prasad Manokaran on Dec 23, 2007 10:43 AM  | Hide replies

Following the drop, fans blocked roads and railway tracks in Kolkata, burning effigies of chief selector Kiran More and Indian coach Chappell, and the urban development minister of West Bengal, Asoke Bhattacharya, said Ganguly was a victim of the internal politics of the BCCI.[9] Cricinfo editor Sambit Bal wrote in a commentary that this was in all probability ... the end of the road for him.[10] However, it was announced on December 25, 2005 that he was selected as part of the Indian team to tour Pakistan. Kiran More cited his experience as the key reason, with Mohammed Kaif being dropped.[11] He was in the playing XI in the Lahore and Karachi Tests, but was dropped for the Faisalabad match. He was unable to play in the England home series and the West Indies tour. He was also not selected for the following Tri-series in Sri Lanka. However, he was chosen amongst 30 probables for the ICC Champions Trophy after being left out in the dark for almost close to a year. Ganguly failed in the Challenger Trophy, however, managing less than 30 runs in two games, and so the chances of recall to the ODI side look bleak.

Ganguly later sent an email hitting out at his one time mentor saying that Jagmohan Dalmiya did not deserve to become CAB president as he had played with his career and that Ganguly was a victim of internal politics within the BCCI. This was in the backdrop of the CAB elections which Jagmohan Dalmiya won.

LOL -- This statement is really funny.

LOL -- This statement is really funny.

India has never lost a est match in which Ganguly has scored a century.

First Ganguly is incapable of playing on sporting tracks, bouncy & lively tracks & he cannot even reach 50 on such pitches, as it has been correctly mentioned that he has a very bad average to be called a batsmen against the great bowlers of his time. So the question of Ganguly scoring 100 in a match which was either played on lively or sporting pitches doesnt arise. He played in Pakistan in last test and scored some two 35's in both innings and India lost. That was a sporting pitch. Then how can we forget Ganguly getting a near groin injury 10 minutes before the toss in Nagpur where there was little grass on the pitch.

So if a batsmen cannot score 50s or runs away seeing the pitch is going to assist fast bowlers, how will he score a hundred in a match which India lost????????

He got numerous chances in these 10 years, if at all he was great, just show me how many runs has he scored and what average he has against the great bowlers between 1995 to 2006, or show me how many 50s he scored against them, cause those great bowlers use to win matches for their countries.

If a batsmen is only capable of scoring 100s on flat tracks & weak bowlers, surely either the match is going to go to draw mostly or one team will win. Though chances of results on batting tracks a quite less a&it is proved from Ganguly's record, 12 drawn 100s, 3 Wins 100s.

Now see how my message wil

Bongs say why Bongs the Bongmaster Boria Majumdar ake history writer of cricket also writes...Ganguly scoring 144 against Australia to save match%u2026.

Fact is bowlers were Gillespie MacGill ,bracken, Waugh ,Katich
No Macgrath Lee or Warne.

1 st day ----- Match started late due to rain on ended early bad light. Two rain interruptions in between
2 nd day ------ Match started late due to bad weather on ended early bad light. Good interruptions in between.
3 rd day ------ half an hour play due to bad light and rain
4 th day ------ play ended early Ganguly scored century at tea in conditions it was clear can not be played for result.
5 th day ----- play started late ended as draw with mutual consent of captains.

How this can be match saving innings when everybody knew that there wont be result. Indian first inning ended on fifth day

Exactly correct. There is no point in telling that India never lost a test when Ganguly scored a century because, he could score only in dead pitches or against weak opponents so that match ended draw or Indian win. On the contrary, one should look at match winning or saving innings in difficult situations and I can recollect only 2 great Innings in his entire carrier of 100 tests. One in his debut test, where he showed way to struggling Indian team, second at Brisbane in 2003. May be we can add last test at Bangalore where we were 4 down for 60 odd runs. Even after playing 100 tests he has only 2 or 3 quality innings and yet he plays 100 test matches. That is why Ganguly by many experts is considered as an ordinary test player(in one days he has a good record).
