India never lost a test in which ganguly scored a 100
by Sameer K on Dec 22, 2007 02:55 PM  | Hide replies

LOL -- This statement is really funny.

India has never lost a est match in which Ganguly has scored a century.

First Ganguly is incapable of playing on sporting tracks, bouncy & lively tracks & he cannot even reach 50 on such pitches, as it has been correctly mentioned that he has a very bad average to be called a batsmen against the great bowlers of his time. So the question of Ganguly scoring 100 in a match which was either played on lively or sporting pitches doesnt arise. He played in Pakistan in last test and scored some two 35's in both innings and India lost. That was a sporting pitch. Then how can we forget Ganguly getting a near groin injury 10 minutes before the toss in Nagpur where there was little grass on the pitch.

So if a batsmen cannot score 50s or runs away seeing the pitch is going to assist fast bowlers, how will he score a hundred in a match which India lost????????

He got numerous chances in these 10 years, if at all he was great, just show me how many runs has he scored and what average he has against the great bowlers between 1995 to 2006, or show me how many 50s he scored against them, cause those great bowlers use to win matches for their countries.

If a batsmen is only capable of scoring 100s on flat tracks & weak bowlers, surely either the match is going to go to draw mostly or one team will win. Though chances of results on batting tracks a quite less a&it is proved from Ganguly's record, 12 drawn 100s, 3 Wins 100s.

Please see the statistics before commenting. Ganguly has a better average in away tests rather than home tests. You guys are gangully haters but remember one thing, only people who are successful have haters like you. SO keep hating and Gangully will keep on piling runs :)

Ok

What is his average in Zimbabwe, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia????

Except for England and WI outside subcontinent his average is not that of someone who shud be called a batsmen.

And his average against WI in West Indies became better after the retirement of Ambrose and later on Walsh, till Walsh was there Ganguly's average wasnt again like that of batsmen.

I think for you the team England of 90s, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka are world beaters and anyone who scores against them becomes great.

Whatever you say , may be correct he has limitations as a batsman and he is not as solid a batsman as Dravid or Tendulkar.

But overall if you see his contribution to Indian Cricket , he has brought a new aggressiveness in Indian Cricket and a fighting spirit...I can assure if he would have been captaining teh side 2007 World cup would have been differnt (Atleast you would not see our best hope Tendulkar goinf to bat at number 4 , when he himself don't want to do so but our all powerful coach forced him to do that )...he will fight for his team and can egt the best out of them...and that is what required in a Team game...I will never say he is best of the batsmans.(I am a big fan of Tendulkar os don't think ganguly fan).but he has something in him....and his comeback and performing in this year has impressed me much..I can not remember any other ex captain in World cricket has played so well after coming back in the team....that really proves something....

Hi Joydip

Guys like you in bengal are very rare. U r one sensible Bengali, offcourse in Mumbai there are quite lot of educated bengalis who damn give a thought of Gangu as great.

My tution sir in the 90s was one.

But due to what bengalis did after ganguly was sacked and then how the curator made a greenish pitch against SA and how the crowd supported South Africa, everyone around the world not just india saw it and that is why Bengali's got a bad name. Though i know there were 4 percent people in Bengal who had voted on STAR TV that Ganguly shud have been sacked due to his batting failures.

hi i am not bengali. i am from pondicherry.
I would like to say one thing about Ganguly's talent and compare with others here for ur reference.

Tendulkar - great test batsman, great ODI batsman, useful utility bowler, average captain.

Dravid - great test batsman, good ODI batsman, good captain.

Ganguly - good test batsman, Great ODI batsman, useful utility bowler, great captain.

All the above are proven facts.
Ganguly is great legend in his own way.
Dont underestimate others talent.

Dont unnecessarily debate on it.

Compare this to Vinod Kambli
by AKS... on Dec 22, 2007 02:33 PM  | Hide replies

Just compare this Gangu's stats to Vinod Kambli whose career was destroyed due to regionalist Dalmiya who kept a useless test batsmen like Ganguly in the side and who became a TEST batsmen after 10 years of player test cricket(ie scored his first double hundred and completed 1000 runs first time, so he became a TEST batsmen finally, albeit needs weak bowlers n flat pitches).

M In NO Runs HS Avg 100 50
17 21 1 1084 227 54.20 4       3

4 hundreds and two double hundreds, 1 against England and 1 Zimbabwe. He was said to be not able to play short pitch bowling properly and once he failed against the WI in India he was sacked permanently so that Ganguly could get into the team.

In these 10 years, Ganguly has faired very badly as a TEST batsmen against fast bowlers, McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Akram, Waqar, Donald and Pollock, so badly that he averages less than 30 against these them and doesnt even boost of a single century!!!!!!

Now if Kambli got axed just cause he was found uncomfortable against fast bowling, then why was Ganguly kept in the TEST side for 10 years.? Both Sourav and Kambli should have got the same treatment but then regionalism comes first.

This is how Dalmiya screwed Indian cricket to keep his favorite ganguly in.

Anyways if by scoring 1 double hundred on a flat batting track against depleted bowlers, a batsmen becomes great, then Vinod Kambli is greater than Ganguly cause he scored 2 doubles and averages 54.

if you say some one can spoil the career of Kambli even when Sachin Tendulakr(the most poweful and respected man in Indian Cricket for last 10 years) is his good friend and Kambli from Mumbai....then I ahve serious doubt of your comments..........So Dalmia has dropped him , but do you have any stats what Kambli did after that in domestic Cricket or did he try to paly in county (I guess he was there in some Hindi/Marathi movies or TV Serials)

Well its true Kambli was far more talented than Ganguly ..in fact on of the most talented batsman of recent times. But Kambli dug his own grave by his attitude ..and nor the so called senior/former players or the board tried to help him out.On the other hand Sourav had a good mentor in Dalmiya and was more level headed thatn Kambli. Also he is a more strong willed individual than Kambli.

However Ganguly has scored lot of runs last time we played in bouncy Australia and South Africa as well as seaming England consistently....

Ganguly is a person who scored more ODI runs than legends like Dravid, Laxman,Kapil...he is also India 6th highest run-getter in tests ..this records cannot be termed as a fluke...

With reference to Sachins Statement , it seems the seniors in the team are well aware that this would be their last tour to Australia & want to make it big & if they are able to do so , we would have an exciting Test Series round the corner...DON FORGET CHECKING RECORDS IN THE RECENT PAST INDIA IS ON THE ONLY TEAM WHO HAS DRAWN A SERIES 1-1 during their last tour to Australia & COMPARED TO THE OTHER TEAMS could now be ranked as the best team in test cricket who could face Australia in Australia & give them a run for their money on their home turf....ALL THE BEST TO OUR GUYS....
