Sachin-booers were right
by chinthan on Mar 23, 2006 07:05 PM

It is not right to just blame Sachin. What about Sehwag who is running through worst patch than Sachin?

Yes i do agree with the fact that Sachin is not the same as what he was 16 years ago, but then with age and injuries it is difficult for anyone to be the same. He is most required for WorldCup 2007 and i bet nobody can point their finger at his world cup records. He is undoubtedly the best. We must preserve him until the world cup and also provide him much required rest and use him only in important matches.

Even the bolwers need to be rotated wisely. We now have so many fast bowlers, so we should provide regular breaks for them and at the same time allow other bolwers to get their chance to prove their worth. Ashish Nehra and Zeher Khan were over burdened and now we all can see how their career is at risk. Also there should be a bowling coach like Srinath or Prasad or Akram to shape these young bowlers.

Hicuups galore
by Rana Basu on Mar 23, 2006 06:55 PM

Let us face the fact that we lost the Mumbai test immediately after we decided to field first after having won the toss. Dravid as an afterthought was referring to this, but I think it was Chappel's brainchild. Australia or for that matter any quality test playing side has a fixed batting line-up which is hardly reshuffeled. Our Einstein (Chappel) who is hell bent to ruin the side keeps juggling around with the batting line-up as a result of which the batsmen do not come good when required. Kiran More too is to be blamed for dropping Laxman. God help Indian cricket under the management of Pawar-Chappel-More combine.

I agree
by Santosh on Mar 23, 2006 06:39 PM

I totally agree with the author. Its time Indian board digs deep into what happened out there at Wankhede. It was a pathetic display of batting bowling and how can we forget feilding.
Aah!! Sehwag who is one of the most feared batsmen, kumble has more runs scored than him. Does he still believe that he can bat the way he wants "risk free"?
Coming to the greatest batsman India has produced Tendulkar.. i think its all over for him. No one must be assured a place just because he had scored in past.. and that too distant past. so what if he has over 30 centuries? he is not indisposable.

Good analysis
by Bhushan Bodekar on Mar 23, 2006 06:35 PM

Hello,

That was a very good analysis, but would be great if the selectors read this.

Well to add to this, Sehewag, who was injured and not fit even to bat in either of the innings has been selected for the ODI's.

The selection comitte should now stop looking at the history and take more realistic approach while selecting the team. Just look at Austrilian team, if a player does not perform, no matter who he is (e.g. Hayden), has to make way for the new commer. And all the new commers have been excellent performers. They are always compelled to perform, because they know someone else is waiting to take over.

There is a lot talent in India. We should realise that if our neighbours, Pakistan, which is a small counrty, can produce such high quality fast bolwers, then there is something lacking with us. There is no use in putting up all the cricket academies, unless the new talent is given a place in the side.

There is no need to play an unfit person, no matter what his past records are. His selection should be based on his current performance. (some previous accounts should be taken into consideration)
And there should always keep in minds that they can be sacked.

fanatics
by prakash on Mar 23, 2006 06:35 PM

I normally dont like posting my comments. But the extent to which some people are taunting the Indian cricket team has compeled me to write this. In a country like India where Cricket is a religion there is a very thin line between being a fanatic and an adrent sports fan. Articles like these have proved that these people are simply fanatics and nothing else. The author has quoted examples of Mathew Hayden - but let me remind him this is the same Hayden who was struggling to find a place in the Australian squad couple of months back after having ruled the game. So please learn to respect the two facets of every game. All of us feel sad when India loses - Infact I lose my apetite - but learn to take it in your stride and dont be a fanatic. I am sure these people who are commenting havent even played Gulli cricket. I hereby Boo you for your irresponsible comments and I am abolutely right.

Sachin booers
by Mangesh on Mar 23, 2006 06:19 PM

I think the author has done a very good job of pointing out the negatives from the recent series but he failed to take into consideratrion the positives. 1) Dravids batting: Its been presented as if all the great batsmen are never supposed to get out to new comers which is strange if not silly. 2) What about our bowlers. No mention for Kumble and company. I dont want to write too much but I would advice the author if he wants to concentrate on tendulkar then do so but if he is criticizing other he should give the whole picture.

You are right!!!!
by shiv on Mar 23, 2006 06:18 PM

With a very fantastic opportunity to move to the 2nd position in the test rankings, India lost yet again after taking the lead. This has become a trend as is seen in numerous previous instances. With regards to this match, the surrender was pathetic. there was no semblance of fight put up by the batsmen coming after Rahul and Sachin. As rightly pointed out England's bowlers were fantastic. Indian bowlers were also good but were let down by the catching. The main worry is our Batting order. What is the use of having big gladiators in batting when they dont deliver the final blow and shamelessly allow bowlers like Udal and Panesar(every street has such spinners)dictate terms and take wickets. It was apalling to see Sachin, Rahul, Yuvraj defending deliveries from Udal. I think Dhoni did the right thing trying to attack.Eventhough the same shot was uncalled for. He could have played the ball in some different area.Anyhows, an opportunity passed will not come again. Wishing our team all the success in the future!!!!
Ps: I think people spending money to watch the match in a hot stadium with little amenities have the right to expresa their ire on a very poor performance. Keep on booing

Just shut up
by Bala on Mar 23, 2006 06:17 PM

It is not fair to ask a legend to quit who has still juice to contribute a lot to cricket. There will be some rough times and so can be dropped (voluntarily like now, whatever the reason be) but dont start this propaganda like the selfish critics like richards, kapil etc.

What do you say about 100 all out when Sachin played till 76?
I agree with the rest of the stuff you wrote in the article but not asking Sachin to quit.

Losing is a part of Game
by Sandeep on Mar 23, 2006 06:16 PM

I think it is not right to talk much into the matter of we losing to England at Wankhade. It is a part of the game and its ok.We lose one, we win one.Booing Sachin, Dravid was not at all right as they are the ones who had coasted India to many victories in the past and they should be given time. All is well with the Indian team and the selectors are doing a very good job by picking the young team and blending it with the experience of seniors. We would have won had every player performed to half of their potential because the players which we have are extremely talented and they know their game very well but somehow they couldn't play the way they should have including the fielding.Sehwag is for me the key man at the start of the innings as the momentum which is required is provided by him but he too is plagued with injuries. He needs one game and thats it the whole scenario will be changed. This Indian team under Rahul Dravid is as formidable as any other and We will bounce back hardly from this defeat.
