Losing is a part of Game
by Sandeep on Mar 23, 2006 06:16 PM

I think it is not right to talk much into the matter of we losing to England at Wankhade. It is a part of the game and its ok.We lose one, we win one.Booing Sachin, Dravid was not at all right as they are the ones who had coasted India to many victories in the past and they should be given time. All is well with the Indian team and the selectors are doing a very good job by picking the young team and blending it with the experience of seniors. We would have won had every player performed to half of their potential because the players which we have are extremely talented and they know their game very well but somehow they couldn't play the way they should have including the fielding.Sehwag is for me the key man at the start of the innings as the momentum which is required is provided by him but he too is plagued with injuries. He needs one game and thats it the whole scenario will be changed. This Indian team under Rahul Dravid is as formidable as any other and We will bounce back hardly from this defeat.

Hmm
by Subodh Deshpande on Mar 23, 2006 06:14 PM

Lara was out of form for a longer time, then he suddenly made his own record and in one year he brooked his own record was he supposed to get retired at that time.
Saurabh is totally out of form because we failed to understand the tragedy of Indian cricket and batsman
Do we mean Rahul, Sehwag, Dhoni, Youvraj should also get retired if they could not play for next series
Agreed that nowadays anybody can get schins wicket, why this should be understood.
We should not become emotional and so called professional
First we have to admit that we are not yet professional, we have to became
We have understand that our ballers's and batsmen's play has been predicted by others and we are not able to predict others, this is what we have to do at the moment.
Inshort, every player has to take an extra risk and additional effort and integral play
Every time they set the aim that, this time we will be breaking our previous record, every time if the batsman and baller confirms that today my play will be superior than my past superior, they will deliver the best
Why Australia/England/South Africa could always play better because they are committed professional and foolish/moody emotional

SRT & cricket...
by Chaitanya on Mar 23, 2006 06:14 PM

Rediff ought to fire their cricket editor / staff writers and get someone who actually understands the game !

While no-one should rest on past laureals, there is a corelation between the past & future. A cricketer who has been successful for only a year - one can looking at replacing him after a failure in say 10 games, keeping in mind age and injury... But for someone who has been succesful for over 16 years, is still very much in his prime and has the skill needed to succeed at the highest level, one needs to be patient in an injury-interspaced bad-patch...

SRT still has so much to offer to indian cricket - stellar batsmanship, ability to win odd games purely on his bowling ability, great nerves under pressure and the fact that he is an exemplary role model to all young cricketers just-in and soon-to-be-in in the Indian team.

I wonder if all persons who suggest that 'the end is near' (yuck!) would be willing to lay their life's earning on the fact that there will not be many more match-winning performances from SRT. I am willing to do so otherwise.

To the rediff.com editorial management - anyone reading this - if you have the guts for the wager ? email me...

Sachin Tendulkar - The Lost Emperor
by BR Mohan on Mar 23, 2006 06:13 PM

Sachin Tendulkar being booed was not a surprise at all. His performance has been hoorifying. He has been completely out of sorts in the recent matches. He should have volunteered to step down after the Pakistan series. Why do we have different yardsicks for different people. If he is not willing to sit out on his own. then drop him. Let him make a comeback after correcting his problems and let him prove his form in domestic cricket. People are waiting on the sidelines and these batsmen would have definitely done better than Sachin in the recent test matches. Let us not keep looking at past performances. What is required now is the ruthlessess in selection policies. We have enough bench strength presently and that\\\\\\\'s good for every player to be on their toes at all times.

Fickle Indian supporters as usual
by Ranjeet on Mar 23, 2006 06:05 PM

As always the Indian media and fans have displayed their fickle nature. After showering plaudits on this very team in Mohali, they come up with articles like the one by Mr. Arvind. Yes, the second innings capitulation was nothing short of humiliating but to write-off Sachin, Pathan and several others is petty. To measure Harbhajan on the yardstick of the 2001 series against Australia is unfair and completely overlooks his performances against West Indies (at home 2002), Australia (home 2004) and other series where he has supported Kuble, And not one word of praise for Kumble in the entire article - not just surprising it is diabolical !!!

WHY NOT JUST ENJOY THE MATCH ...
by Reza on Mar 23, 2006 06:02 PM

Mr. Arvind,

This article was too pessimistic about the Indian team .. WHY SHOULD WE HANG OUR HEADS IN SHAME IF THE INDIAN TEAM LOSES??? Just Enjoy the Match yaar..

We have to agree that England played better cricket and India slipped ... Which side in the history of cricket has not slipped ...

Mr. Arvind mentions about ...

"Making icons out of our cricketers at the drop of our hat "

I guess he forgets that the opposite also applies too often

MAKING OUR CRICKETERS FEEL USELESS PIECES OF .. Well .. Whatever.. at the end of every loss ..

We should just learn to enjoy the match .. If Matthew Hoggard bowls well .. give him the credit .. enjoy his bowling ...

About Sachin, it is very unfortunate that he is off-colour. For what the man has done for the country, he does not deserve to be booed

Is it his fault that the selectors and his team mates have faith in him
Is it his fault that he is not wanting to stop contributing for the country
Do we expect him to voluntarily rest himself beacuse he is out of form
C'mon give him a break .. We should not be booing him n reducing his confidence .. but should be raising our voice against the selectors for a CONSISTENT SELECTION METHOD

Vox Populi
by Abilash on Mar 23, 2006 05:53 PM

I agree with u completely. We are facing the music now because we were blind with passion for our greats. We never gave our youngsters chance to prove themselves.

We are simply hoping that superstars perform...we are not lookin into the future by engaging more youngsters into the team. Youngsters who have the guts and talent to stand up to fast bowling and teach them a lesson or two.

Instead we seem to beleive that negative batting tactics being championed by Rahul Dravid is the right thing. OK...One can understand the importance of having one Mr.dependable in Tests...whereas what do you have to say of the rest who seem to have taken Dravid's strike rate as their model without his consistency. The fact is that the extremely negative batting tactic of leaving all balls outside the off stump...leading to strike rates between 10 and 25 allows the rival teams bowling to get on top all the time. And this has helped the England seam attack all throughout the series.

The negative tactics and the fading super heroes are the main reason behind India's failure. In the ODI's the team was rescued many a time by the Superman Dhoni, who failed to make his Superhuman act in the Tests...
