by beena on Sep 23, 2005 03:11 PM

Its high time this joker Chappel is restrained by the board. he cant do all these mischiefs and come out public through secretly leaking to the media and create unnecesssary flutter in the cricketing fraternity. He seems to be an idiot who is doing every thing other than cricket

Its high time to stop this man .

Appears to be a agent who came to destabilize the Indian Cricket

Ganguly unfit
by tapan on Sep 23, 2005 03:08 PM

BCCI should not step in to the trap of Mr Chappell. Mr Chappell has taken over charge only a few months ago - India's Colombo tour this year. He has got Sourav for two ODIs only in Sri Lanka, of course, under Dravid as Captain. Sourav reappointed Captain for Zimbabwe tour. Although 3-nation ODI series was lost, India, under Sourav, regained fame after 19 years winning series beyond Asia. He energised Indian team, stopped prevailent lobbyism within Indian teams. So far as his personal achievement is concerned, he scored 10000 runs in ODIs and 5000 runs in Tests. He has been considered the BEST CAPTAIN India ever had. Even at the Zimbabwe tour, Sourav was the only cricketer who achieved a hundred. Has Chappell got records as a cricketer as achieved by Sourav? Has he not gone through these records before commenting or complaining against Sourav? Are all these the signs of Sourav's incompetency as a Captain or a cricketer? I hope BCCI would consider those what Chappell has failed to.

Ganguly and Indian cricket
by Rajesh on Sep 23, 2005 03:07 PM

I think it is high time that we indians and cricket lovers make a decision between cricket and an individual. A place in the Indian team has to be earned by everyone and not gifted. Let it be the captain or the twelveth man. If Ganguly is not performing then he has no place in the team. His attitude is not setting the right example for the young cricketers. In these conditions there is no point blaming Chappell for the teams performance. He will be just another victim of Indian cricket politics. Ganguly, you were the hero of the past. But for a better future of Indian cricket you need to step down. Take some time off and prove your worth in domestic cricket. Then you can claim your spot in the team. For now "you need to step down".

Ganguly's character is to be questioned
by Ganesh Mali on Sep 23, 2005 03:04 PM

"You can imagine the character of a person who within hours of a truce goes and writes such an email."
What a stupid statement from Ganguly.

Mr. Ganguly, Greg is a thorough professional. He went for the (so called )truce, coz one Test was still remaining and its not good to have any differences within the team mid-tour and especially when the series was yet to be decided.Suggesting him to step down, then claiming that he was motivating(The "truce") and then the mail. These are not sudden fluctuations on part of the coach. But he gave his sincere opinion(and that of crores of non-Bengali Indians), then he didnt want to viciate the dressing room atmosphere( especially on the eve of a decider test match), so cleared his stand, and once the aim of winning the series was acheived again reiterated his stand.

"The Indian captain does not follow the fitness regime prescribed and most of the time uses false pretext of injury to exempt himself"

No wonder why he is so slow on the field and why after for years he couldnot rectify even the most basic mistakes in his technique(short ball, moving ball et al).And why his running between the wickets is so shabby.

Greg sends an email to BCCI
by v.sriram on Sep 23, 2005 02:51 PM

This is a very serious development and the BCCI should get to the bottom of the whole episode. If whatever Greg Chappel has said about Ganguly's attitude and outlook, then it is prudent to chuck him out of the team forthwith. There are more worthy players who are competent enough to find a place in the team than Saurav Ganguly and many of his overrated players.Being the darling of the media can only do so much but their endorsements of products on the TV should be backed by committment and performance on the field. The board is also guilty of supporting these players to the hilt

I really regret that talented players like Kumble and Lakshman have to prove themselves everytime while many incompetent players represent our country.

He might be a great batsman but poor on coaching
by Mainak on Sep 23, 2005 02:50 PM

MR Greg Chappel might be a great captain and coach of Australia in past but he is creating problem from very first assignment he took. When he took team to Sri Lanka every one knew he has a bad relation with Yuvraj Singh and now its Saurav. Tomorrow dont think Rahul with be far away. If Saurav was to blame he might not survive for past 5 years. Its just after this Aussie came all the issues are coming. So he has to go. We dont want any help from an Aussie. We need to beat them by our own.

ganguly's actions
by jerilv on Sep 23, 2005 02:36 PM

dear rediff,

the captain of the indian team has to realise that his days are over. he is just trying to stay in the team thereby hampering his team. his actions are not that is expected from a captain. he is not able to deliver what is expected of him.he is bringing a bad name to himself. he is too much bothered abt himself rather than the team. if he thinks a century against zimbave is great then its verykiddish of him. we all know what the standard of the zimbave team is.

Chappell - Ganguly saga - a peep into the past
by K Ray on Sep 23, 2005 02:33 PM

Surely, Ganguly is not acting professionally in this recent episode.

Greg Chappell is a great batsman and I've been a fan of his batting for a long time.

But let's also take a look at some past instances to judge Greg Chappell's integrity as a cricketing professional.

Greg instructed his brother Trevor to bowl 'underarm' to avoid an ODI defeat against New Zealand.

Greg scored a chain of 5 or 6 ducks in tests & ODIs when he was the captain. He did not offer to step down because of his dismal form.

Greg (and some of his teammates) secretly signed, in 1977, a deal with Kerry Packer to play ih WSC just before he was chosen captain of the Australian side for an England tour. Due to this rift in the team, Aussies played poorly in that tour and badly lost the series.

From late 70's till he retired 1n 1982, he used to pick and choose his overseas tours. When he was the reigning captain, he did not tour Pakistan (although Dennis Lillee & Rodney Marsh did) citing health / business reasons and Aussies were badly mauled in that series.

Greg got a set team, built by brother Ian, but did little to groom new talent. It was Allan Border who lead Aussie recovery in cricket.

there is no one can perform better than sourav as a captain .
by surajit kundu on Sep 23, 2005 02:30 PM

hi there ,

i guess that will be a mistake if chappell make any stupid change , as a captain sourav is more mature than anybody else in the team. he knows each & every body of the team member very well , moreover he got the potential to motivate his boys to find their true potential .after all he made the team india & he had done so much for the team to bring in this level , and much more to receive from him.he is the best as a captain in the history of indian cricket.

sourav got the dynamic ability as a leader & young team member likes him because of his amiable personality.

so , sourav will be the captain as long he is playing.

Disappointing
by Saurabh on Sep 23, 2005 02:22 PM

It is disappointing the Chappell has made such statements about India's most successful captain. A good coach should be able to make such players like Ganguly, who are not in the best of form but are very talented, perform. Instead of working with Ganguly and helping him get his touch, he is criticizing him. Such criticism will only further affect the morale of the player. Chappell is affecting the whole team's morale by criticizing the Captain is such manner. He seems to be less of a coach and more of a commentator. His habit of criticizing will spell doom for this country. We need to look at Chappell's performance as a coach. He has been below par and is now finding excuses to shift the focus away from him. He should refrain from this "blame game" and accept his failure and resign. Just a few days back Ganguly had made up with him and called his statements "fair" but just see the charachter of this coach that he has betrayed Sourav Ganguly again. We are disappointed Mr.Chappell. Back to Australia!!
