Is Dravid right Choice?
by Vijai Pal Bhadana on Oct 14, 2005 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Sir,
Of course, Dravid is right choice in present context when our most sucessful captain going through a bad patch. But, we should not forget Ganguly's stature as a player and success as captain. I want to request to all cricket loving people that they should not criticise Ganguly negatively. we have lot of expectations from him as a batsman. We know he is second to non as a batsman.

Whatever you have stated is absolutely stupid!

You do not know ABCD of cricket. If DRavid is not there, Indian innnings in TEst matches, would not have gone more than two sessions, and in one day, their innings more often would fold-up before complettion of 50 overs.

To the boiling respondent having knowledge of ABCD in cricket.

Reply for R.N.Babu.

If Vijai Pal Bhandana does not know the ABCD of cricket (as per your opinion, not mine), perhaps you know just the ABCD of cricket and nothing more.

I am an ardent supporter of Dravid in Test cricket. For Test Cricket, he is my best choice. But in ODI ..... Dravid is good only when the team loses 2-3 early wickets. Sticking there and stopping further destruction are what he can mostly do (sometimes it is needed too). But when it comes to scoring fast keeping the number of balls in mind, which is often required in ODIs, he is never a good player (there may be a few exceptions). Just making the show run upto 50 overs may not be very interesting often (Gavasker once played full 50 overs and remained not out at somewhere about 27).

Further, a good player may not necessarily make a good captain. Gundappa Viswanath, Sachin Tendulkar are examples.

Still, in the present situation, I think Dravid is the only choice, considering his dedication, seniority and consistency.

Only time can say whether he makes a good captain or not.

Till then, just be patient.

Is Dravid the right choice? NO
by Nitin on Oct 14, 2005 10:23 AM

Hi Criket Fans,

I always found Dravid a failure for planning on field, he doesnt have caliber to dictate his team members, His better average with bat have mostly let Indian team face problems for run rate or loosing matches, He sticks with bat like an ointment never scores for team or country, when front side looses wicket because of His not scoring and he sticks till last and scores half or full century, scoring for himself and gaining an Average for himself only.

Its Indias poor luck that we have to depend on such a player who in his long career still doesnt know that he has to hit the balls inbetween fielders, today also he hits strongly right to fielders. His failure is much required before world cup so that selector Kiran More or others should change there decision before loosing world cup.

Rahul is perfect candidate as Captain
by Amol on Oct 14, 2005 10:22 AM

The Rahul Dravid is an intelligent cricketer and all cricket world called him as 'Think-Tank of Indian Cricket'. He is the person who always help Indian team to be out of trouble. Compare to Saurav Ganguly, who is playing the dirty politics for regaining his post. He is the stain on the Indian Cricket History. We all feel ashamed of Saurav Ganguly who hold the same post earlier hold by some of greats like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar etc. I Think Rahul is Perfect choice to be as Captain. I all wishes with him for the success.

Meritocracy is preavailing. Its a real good sign. Abolishing quota systems, encouragement to fresh talent would help raising the standard of Cricket

Yes Dravid is perfect chioice for the Captain
by Shivanand Meti on Oct 14, 2005 10:20 AM

The stastics won't count for the electing captain or the sucess of winning the team abroad. Finally matters how he motivates other junior player. The ganguly stats after world cup doesn't show any big achivement in his personal careers since he has scored(50's/100's)with underdog teams. With the existing team any captain can beat underdog team in thier soil.

Now point is whoever not playing good in the team has to be removed from the team and give chance to young player aiming for the world cup 07.Give chance to Rahul dravid atleast for a year and see the progress,I am sure team will perform well in coming series.

Ganguly has to perform well to get place in team otherwise no place for him.

captain of the indian team
by s k chanda on Oct 14, 2005 10:16 AM

Any boby can become captain prvided he stands the tests of time.First find out why and under what circumstances Ganguly was made captain. How he made the Indian team popular from the grass root level.Time will tell the rest.We must not forget the fact the we indian are fools in paradise. We even do not know how to critisize a person.Till to-day we add the word "Bengali" before him to expose our inferior quality.Ganguli is the most successful explorer of Team India.I think that was his fault.

Rahul the Captain
by K,R. Sreenath on Oct 14, 2005 10:13 AM

Rahul is a good player. But to make him captain when you do not have the regular one is not a great thing. It is additional responsibility. I am not saying that being a captain will affect your game, but the tension which builds up is that people expect that now Rahul is leading, we will have to see some change. This is the pressure he will have to put up with. Ofcourse given a chance and the time to settle down, he will be a good captain.

Is Dravid right man
by Subhash Chandra Misra on Oct 14, 2005 10:13 AM

Saurabh Ganguli was best captain in Indian Cricket history. He was havin desire to win matches.Idon't see this type of desire in Dravid.Personal record of Dravid is fine but selectors of team should appoint him temporary(captain) and should be continue in searching new captain.Whereas I trhink Kaiff should be better.
