if u dont know, just stay there..Anand stays in Spain simply because a LOT of tournaments take place in EUROPE and he cant simply travel everytime from India to Europe and it saves precious preparation time..now may be u dont know that spain is in europe, even..!@!@God help you... now let me hit where it hurts u most...Anand kept Indian flag fly higher than may be a hundred others on too many occasions..i wouldn't even compare Anand with Sachin..Anand is a fair distance away at the top!!!
SACHIN HAS NOT LEFT INDIA. THIS MAN IS NO MORE INDIAN THAN OBAMA. DO you know that Vishwanathan Anand is based in Spain now. Even rediff states that he is the best sportsman India has ever produced and not best INDIAN SPORTSMAN. there is a difference He like Sania has left India

It seems that u hav no idea why he set up home in Madrid. Its only because of the game n not for anything else. Europe is the home of chess n to b nearby gives lot of advantages. Anand holds a Indian passport also.

just look at the flag beside his name in the picture and you'll see which country he represents.
I am trying to learn chess but it is so confusing. my friend tells me horse can jump anywhere but only two and half squares. what is two and half squares ? elephants jump in one line only and camels jump only on diagonals and queen can jump like both camel and elephant ! why is everybody jumping so much ? funny game !

@ hi hi - Good & funny comment ! @ Ram Alegavi - if you can learn it, it's a very nice game, very good for mind & psychology study - I played many years when I was a kid but got strayed away into mmoney earning later on - Alas !
Congratulations Vishy, you are one of the genius Indians and when I was watching the last game, I was in terrible tension as I thought it was going to be a draw. But you distracted him well by showing the c5 weakness on your side, really superb, Bishop on a8 really deadly. One of the greatest games you played.
Guys, let's not compare Anand and Sachin. Both are equally great in their own way and I would attribute that to their immense talent and humble respectful behaviour. Incidentally, they also have similar voices :). Cricket is a team sport, but just like Anand, Sachin has been among the top five batsmen for most part of the last 15 years. Since there is no one-on-one challenge in cricket, we cannot compare their acievements. I have met both Anand and Sachin. They have tremendous respect for each other and feel privileged to be compared to each other. @ of the greatest Indian sportspersons of the modern era.
Anand Winning Chess World Cup is no big deal. A day a Dalit / Muslim Sportsperson wins something that will be the best moment for India. Anand is a Brahmin and is well-off and this is no big deal.

Sorry Mr.Santosh, We are all Indians, there is no south/north/east/west borders in sports, see when Sachin or some other else scores century or India wins we all celebrate because we are true Indians. I request you not to bring even South/North differences. I am a Chess Coach and have students even in Delhi, and that fellow got National U-11 3rd Place this year, so what can you say about it?

Dear Sanjay, Please do not get caste here. U view point is in a way justified. But do u think Anand came from Rich background ? No it is purely individual effort and as a nation we did not create any infrastructure for him to excel in chess. Please appriciate the effort. You cannot buy World Title with money. If that is so then India could have world Titles in all the sports. So please appriciate the effort and instead of negatively talking tell the government as to how to encourage Dalit/Muslim sports persons to take to chess. Sir, Please beleive We are the best country in the world so only we had a muslim president, a dalit president, a dalit speaker...etc and of all a muslim cricket captain. We are truely a democratic and tolerant nation. Please do not spread heatred. If possible spread love and tell government how they can improve the lot of people you are talking about.

Why bring caste in such a glorius moment forIndia. He is a world champian and it is most popular game, next to soccer, in the world. The game is originated in India. Why not give him Bharat Ratna? Why express parochial comments.

Not Sachin...he plays only for himself not for country... If he was playing for country, he would have skipped IPL and played Worldcup...

You are really horrible. Sachin (and some other sr. players) took a decision few years back that they would not play T20 WC to give chance to the young generation players (and there are many talents in the country). Sachin is sticking to that. After all, many players do not take part either in ODI or in Test Cricket at the advanced age to reserve their energy. Even if we look from that angle, not playing T20 seems to be okay. And in IPL, Sachin is not blocking the road for some young talented guy...their are plenty of places for them in IPL.

Grow up guys. Enough of Sachin playing only for himself or of Vishy residing in Spain.
These are all mumblings of frustrated people. Have you ever considered where you'd have been had you been as good as Vishy?
Or do you claim that more selfless than Sachin.
Sachin HAS BEEN selfless guys. And Anand IS VERY MUCH AN Indian as the flag next to him indicated.
Just learn praising the greats you have rather than bringing out cheap discredits to them.
Vishy and Sach are unparalleled and India is and ought to be proud to have such sons.
We don't have any great sports-persons and these 2 are not just great, they are the GREATEST in their resp. fields and are still such humble and hard-working characters, and you still want to find fault with them?
