If you read the article, the guy complains because cricket is a team sport while the spirit of Olympics is towards individual accomplishments. It's a correct question to ask why hockey, basket ball, soccer and volleyball are included in the games.

i dont think jamaica needs to learn cricket again. it has already produced world class cricketers like Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh and Jimmy Adams. your knowledge on cricket is less i guess

Let alone SOCCER, India did not qualify for Hockey, of which they were once the champs. Indians don't qualify for track and field, high jump, long jump, more officials go participate in Olympics than the actual number of athletes. Indians, good for no sport.

Medal comes from pratise and hard work; better facilities and best methods.
Abhinav won a gold medal and the whole credit of it goes to his father rather then any indian sporting body. NO indian sports authority or coach should take credit for his Gold. It is just a personal effort and dream of his father.
If cricket is included in Olympics india will be even behind Bangladesh, as Indian cricketers play for money and Olympics does not get you any money. Second thing Olympics is played for national pride and Indian are more interested in Personal records, and even BCCI cannot bribe anyone as most of the Big shots of every country will be present at Olympics.
Next one kaaddi, It is a 100% physical game and the moment other countries start playing it India will be buttom of the list.
Remember Hockey and Dhayanchand..now we do not even Qualify.
Same goes for Cricket, let us not prompte T20, else countries like Brazil, Spain, Argentina, US if all these countries start playing T20 then Indian won't even qualify after 2 olympics...
Winning Medal at Olympics is possible ONLY with 5 things and those are.
1. Spot talent at early ages.
2. Get better facilities.
3. Get better coaches.
4. Pay better salaries and money to other sports persons.
5. Let the sport person competite at world stage at Govt Expenses. and that too selecting for plyaing at world stages should be without politics and favor.

Michael Phelps is practising for last 14 years and hence the result.
We Indian do HARD work for 2 months just before the olympics [Crash Course]. And expect the Win Medal.
Why did not promote Football after 1950's when we have greats like PK Banarjee; and Hockey when we had greats like dhayanchand....we were more busy looking at Lala Amarnath, Deleep Sardesai, Gavaskar rather then PK and Dhayanchand, these 2 poor fellow might not have got even a 0.000001 % of what sachin, Dhoni have made....
Even the fast food cricket wala's IPL and ICL wala made more then those poor greats....
Look where is PT Usha, Shiny Abraham, Anju Geroge, Anand.
Even after being the greatest Chess player in the world VIshy Anand might not get a welcome like Parthiv Patel in India....
It should be the rest 100 crore people who should be sorry about the current state of sport in india then the sportmans...
We are indirectly responsible for their state as we love our cricketers more then anyone else.
If Cricket is Included in Olympics there is chance of winning the medal for India, the other sports which if included at olympics where India can win medals are billards and snookers, kabbadi, chess
If that is the case then why not bar Footbal in Olympics why not hockey and other team games, cricket is second popular game on the planet and the first is Football if there is room for football in Olympics then why cant there be room for cricket.

Do you know football is played in all the countries of the world? Hockey is played in Europe, Asia and South America. Can you say the same for cricket? Not that I hate cricket, but there can be no comparision between football and cricket.
Cricket is not harming anyone. Whether its in Olympics or not in Olympics...we NEED to promote ALL kinds of sports in India. Because more sports means more medals.
We Indians are T20 Cricket World Champions & we have the greatest cricketers in the World.Its one of our strengths. Kabaddi is our major strength as its an Indian game & popular too as 20 of the Worlds developed countries have Kabaddi teams (including USA).
When Gilchrist of Australia says that T20 cricket SHOULD be in 2020 Olympics he means that by then the game would have become very popular throughout the world.
If JUDO a Japanese sport, TAEKWONDO a Korean sport can be in Olympics..why not have KABADDI an Indian sport. Why not have CRICKET a British sport in which INDIA is very strong.
Why we should only be satisfied with 1 GOLD Medal from Abhinav ? Why not also have CRICKET & Kabaddi & try for 2 more GOLDS.
Maybe Gilchrist wants to add 1 more Gold on regular basis for Australia in Olympics apart from other sports too.. because Aussies are also very strong in cricket.
Cricket is not in Olympics our Indians Saina Nehwal, the 3 boxers (in Qtr Finals) are doing well. Imagine if MANY powerful Army men ride horses in Olympics, powerful tribal & village guys and girls swim & run like the wind we can do wonders.
Even then if we dont win in few events in 2020 Olympics we can still have these 3 sports CRICKET, KABADDI & CHESS as our BACK UP for ENSURING 2 or 3 Medals ATLEAST

If Japanese can force their traditionally invented JUDO in Olympics If Koreans can force inclusion of TAEKWONDO If Americans can force BASEBALL
then why Indians cant force KABADDI & Chess (Shatranj :-) and why the British & Australians cant force CRICKET and that too T20 cricket.
If they can ALLOW have one animal called HORSE to also compete apart from human beings in a sport called EQUESTRIAN in Olympics, why they can't allow CAMEL (Camel Races are popular in all desert regions in so many Middle East countries and also Rajasthan). Why they can't allow BULL racing with human beings
If they can build world class Airconditioned stables in Hongkong (co - host city for this 2008 Olympics) for all the horses which arrived in planes from various countries, why they cant also make similar facilities for other animals.
Why is OLYMPICS COMMITTEE showing PARTIALITY towards certain sports and totally neglecting others ?
Why no SEPAK TAKRAW ? Why they have WUSHU as a special MEDAL sport in Olympics ?
Why no CURLING this time in Olympics ?
Cricket is a MAJOR POPULAR , PHYSICALLY demanding sport which has ACTION, RUNNING and STRENGTH involved. Why its not an Olympic sport when it has television viewership in more than 80 countries with millions of people watching World Cups every 4 years and also T20 tournaments throughout ? Isnt it similar to Baseball ? Then why not

Exactly man Sunit. He is an individual and he doesnt understand what is TEAM SPORT. Without Teamwork even Michael Phelps wouldnt have won his 8th Gold medal (which came in Swimming RELAY team event).
TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More
Even for an individual athlete like Linford or Usain Bolt a team of persons (their families) , instructors, trainers, coaches , dieticians, doctors would have to work hard for many years to produce OLYMPIC champions.
Nobody achieves anything in this world alone.
Even for any living being to be born in this world ... the team work of one male and female is needed.
