Cricket should not be welcomed into Olympics: Christie
by anilkumar Pillai on Aug 17, 2008 10:35 PM  | Hide replies

Christie it takes a generation to mend such thoughts. I appreciate your understanding of the sport you are in and also the sport such as cricket which is blindly followed due to the billions thrown through advertisement for the cricket organisers to cherish. One often feels baised and in favour of cricket. With biased feelings it is often compared to other sports. Cricket should never be brought into Olympics as it polifers other sports. Hats off to you Christie. Your words can be heard and its loud. I appreciate it. Cricket organisers have grouped themselves to cause dismay with regular sport lovers. As for cricket, individual performance of one single day is magnified beyond human marvel of the day and thus leaves no space for any other sport which is equivalently as important.

Fools call Cricket a SPORT
by red chillies on Aug 17, 2008 10:33 PM  | Hide replies

Modern day Cricket is a Casino Gaming Extravaganza.

Those who play it are all Old people for any real sports and it does not suit Citius,Altius,Fortius in anyway nor any sporting country wants to play it. It is more of a passtime than a Sport.

@gac bhai i have no objection but then sport need to be redefined in english dictionary. Then it is okay we can include napping, sleeping, semi-trance state, sleep to death, etc like walking, steeplechase, hurdle, 100m, 200m, relay, etc. Anyway u have a creative mindset which i appreciate but people will not accept here.

Well there must be cricket fan .. but if you see it is just played by a handful of countries..( again slaves to British and British themselves ) ..

A test series in itself is near to the time taken by Olympics..

Finally after 100 crores pushing their entire effort we get defeated by Bangladesh.. and return back home Happily...

So no wonder .. we have such a situation and such a poor result in Sports...

It is like preparing entirely for Indian History Exams ( Unpopular like common subjects like Science, math, economics ) .. and getting failed in all the subjects including the Indian History

Omigosh!!! She is damn scared. I also think cricket should not be part of olympics but her reasoning is like that of a scared person who think they will be loser. Why didn't she comment about hockey, football, basketball, etc.

cricket part of olympics
by Kvins on Aug 17, 2008 10:17 PM  | Hide replies

If Cricket would be part of Olympics .. then

1.) It would take 3 to 4 times the no of days it is taking now to finish the Olympics. ( Probably a little more than 1 month )

2.) Cricket would have to be stated before any other sports event and will end after all the sports

3.) More Stadiums and time has to be alloted to Cricket because it is a time consuming game

4.) Finally after years.. we will be replaced as in hockey , polo etc

5.) It is popular with only those countries which were slave to British and Ofcourse the British themselves..

well said, the point 5 is the real essense of the game.slavish, servile, weak and not a sportive game. Olympics is the arena for personal talent.cricket is no individual game. just take this case. a wicket is credited to the bowler when the actual catch is taken by the fielder. what a shame. its the fieler who should get that credit, and bowler should be penalized for having let hit instead of aiming the wicket.
this and many other stupid rules of circket have kept me away from it. its a game played for leisure for the weak. why does the rest of the world dosent come to play the cricket world cup,the britsh slaves continue playing it and those few call it world cup, what a shame. we must excel in hockey and make it more famous in india. i believe hockey was discovered by indians and we are lacking back from otheres and in other sports too becoz of this god for nothing cricket has spoilt the indian youth from being courageous and powerful.

i never knew any indian would be totally ignorant about cricket. U need improve ur knowledge about cricket dramatically before u start commenting on it. To clear ur doubts, the credit is given to bowler simply because he has induced a false stroke from the batsman which resulted in a catch to the fielder. Again, the name of the catcher also appears in the score book and the record books.

How did cricket stop other sports from flourishing? What is the standard of Indian hockey today? First ask ur football, hockey and athletics associations to improve their facilities and start producing sportsperson who would win medals instead of cribbing about cricket.

Again, let me stress improve ur knowledge about cricket before u r laughed at by others!

Every sports requires a lot of training, facilities , money and encouragement .. If people playing sports other than cricket have to struggle for living . How do you expect them to win medals..

Is 100 crores peoples want cricket only at their game .. then they shouldn't be expecting medal from any other sports....

Finally that is the difference between China and India.. We won a Cricket World Cup ( among 15 countries ) or so in last century .. while they have already won 30 gold in this Olympics.... Yeah I know India also has won a gold medal that is enough for next 20-30 years or so everyone can sleep quietly and watch cricket

i cant stop laughing at you first, coz you seem to be following cricket but dont know who gets the wicket. agreed that the catcher name appears on the score book, even for a runout, but what about the credit of earning the wicket? that goes to only the bowler.update ur mind first to understand all this.
if bowlers were so efficient in inducing false strokes from batsman, then 10 spells are enough to end the game. batsmen getting a chance to hit the ball hard is the biggest failure of the bowler. and these shots when less powerful results in catches. u must be an armchair cricketer who has no sense of on ground reality.
first of all bowlers eyes must be on wickets not like urs seeing somewhere and understanding somthing.

and the credit must go to a catcher, or thrower completing runout instead of the bowler who failed his main purpose of hitting wickets or getting lbw.

Olympics does have team sports Christie!!
by Gautam Sinha on Aug 17, 2008 10:16 PM  | Hide replies

Christie note that football and hockey are part of olympics as much. That is not the reason why Olympics should not have cricket. Cricket should not be in Olympics as it is a game of former slaves of British and Britain and no other nation (except perhaps Holland) takes a fancy to this game. Such a shame of some 16 odd countries should not really be part of olympics where every nation participates. Oh and by the way, other games like there have been attempts to include country specific games (or sports) like Karate, Baseball and Kabaddi in olympics but without much success.

Cricket is a Non Sporting activity for older People
by red chillies on Aug 17, 2008 10:15 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket is a Passtime activity for Older people and its entry level is the exit level for real sports. It is managed by Casino Hose like dirty Czars and promoted for all kinds of glamour money making activity. Cricket noway meets the CITIUS, ALTIUS and FORTIUS motto of Olympics and hardly any Sporting Nation wants to play it.
