The leaders from SC/ST/OBC are not real Dalits.
by Ahi Sen on Feb 03, 2013 12:03 PM

Leaders claiming as backward class but rich and educated cannot claim to be true dalits. They are forward and empowered than majority of the so called upper caste. Nandy spoke about corrupts. The corrupts are existing amongst the empowered section irrespective of caste. The Government can issue a list of all corrupts that will help the public to assess whether percentage of corrupts are more amongst the various castes. By condemning Nandy and taking shelter of caste one corrupt cannot wash the sin of corruption. Any one representing the public must posses an un blaming public life.

Dalits should know that the upper castes have ruined their life for centuries & took every opportunity to use them for their supremacy. To my surprise they are still using the terms dalits- harijan- and malexa- to separately identify them & use them as and where they deem fit. They are raping, burning, insulting & discriminating as & when they find little chance. SC,ST- should convert to Islam- to have equal rights where there is no difference in mankind by birth where every Soule are equal unlike them dividing mankind in hierarchy & attaching priority of material world distributed given nothing to Dalit-. What an irony that a Dalit- man can not marry women from higher caste, can not share temple & public places. How long they will fool you. They do not consider you human being & say you not possessing Soule. Your women can not go chaste to their husbands without being raped by them. You are a commodity to them who is destined to work as slave. You can not read Vedas- & if you do so, your tongue will be chopped off. Corruption in Indian society is the birth right of higher caste. On death, birth, marriages & all other occasions lower caste got to pay dakshina- I was Dalit- & converted to Islam- married to a girl from a respectful Muslim family now live in peace with self respect unlike unbearable insult I suffered being a Hindu.

If what you say is true, why do we see the terms Muslim Dalits and Christian Dalits appearing in the press? It is a numbers game, and the poor, dalit or non-dalit, remain where they were. All religions are expoliting the term dalit, which should now be banned. Islam and Christianity had no caste till they reached India, but here caste has pervaded these two religions too.

Corruption in private sector
by Vijay Rao on Feb 03, 2013 11:25 AM

Ashis Nandy has commented only on corruption in public sector. What about corruption in private sector. I can quote a classic example of corruption among mobile phone service providers Even though there is no directory of mobile phone numbers (like BSNL) for reference, how do telemarketing companies get our numbers? They get our names & numbers so accurately & harass us even at odd hours trying to sell us insurance policies or some other stuff. Can anyone like to join this debate with me? NDTV had shown a report sometime back on their news channel how a list of mobile numbers are sold to anyone who will offer money.

India is a failed state, socially, economically and politically. Disrespect for human right, social injustice, rapes, murders and corruptions in every small and big office reflects India failure at social levels. Gap between rich and poor reflect India failure at economic level. Gundas- killers, murderers and corruption among Member of Parliament and ministers across party line reflects India failed politically. This society headed by MANUWAD- is against Dalit and Chamar-

I there a way?
by Raghavendra Ravi on Feb 03, 2013 09:37 AM  | Hide replies

Whatever explanations and nuances that all analysts may point out, there is a widespread feeling that some castes are more corrupt .. is there a way in which it can be expressed, without being killed??
The only community that can be criticized without any fear is Upper Castes - in my view even Prof Nandy has done only that and no one from the so called Upper Castes are in arms!! Also the worthies in the castes who are upset have no problems with Nandy when he says that the Upper Castes are corrupt .. they in effect endorse it and enjoy the comment. Prof Nandy, since he belongs to the "upper Caste" feels free to take pot shots at Upper caste without any probems... I do not know why we call these powerless castes as Upper Castes!! ( Hope Moderator allows this comment)

Mr Ravi, I hope you now feel the pain of being branded as the corrupt community thru' statements from Prof. Nandy.
If we go by our cultural and social concept than two castes come in the picture as Dishonest(Be-iman) and Greedy (Lalchi) and they are Baniya and Brahmins respectively.Other castes are hardworking farmers, working class and not much corrupt - ruling class i.e. kshtriya.
Prof Nandy has made the statement to remove the wrong perception projected by the vested interests (Two Bs) that the most corrupt castes are from the OBCs and SC/STs.
Sooner or later common people will understand who are the thieves in our society by accessing to the info on the total wealth distribution and actors of illegal transactions/black money in our socio-economic system

Corruption
by prikhshayat singh on Feb 02, 2013 07:40 PM

Corruption
There are of course no two opinions today that corruption is here and there, but corruption is at all walks of National life structure. There is no sphere of activity where we are not faced with corruption. Only difference from Kashmir (North) to Kanaykumari (South) and Mumbai (West) to Tawang (East) is the kind of corruption, degree of corruption and level of corruption. But certainly one will find a discernible diffefference in face of corruption taken care of in Bihar or UP and in Tamil Nadu or Kerala, and in Maharashtra or Madhya Pradesh and in West Bengal or Assam. The face of corruption is labile and it goes on changing. Earlier the departments of the Government thought to be mostly associated with corruption were the agencies to maintain law and order, but now many other agencies have far exceeded these agencies. Many a times the corruption has a political face. Our ever-increasing population and ever squeezing employment structure is also a major source of corruption. After liberalization in nineties there was a perceptible lag in seeable corruption, but things have changed now altogether. Then the circulation of money is so much, people have started running after the money because not only you can make money but you can amass it. If I am not much wrong some have adopted the avocation of having (making) more and more money. Gandhi ji dictum has almost been forgotten, “there is enough for every ones need but not for greed”. PS Ghushoo Sambyal.

Why Nadi may be correct
by RamRahim on Feb 02, 2013 07:20 PM  | Hide replies

The statutory protection/cover provided to SC/ST seems to be behind the higher than normal prevalence of corruption among SC/ST officials. The same holds true for dalit politicians who are corrupt. For instance, it is an open secret that during her tenure Mayawaty amassed huge assets through corrupt methods and BSP became one of the richest political parties in India, but no political heavy weight has the courage to call her corrupt. Just like any other law,(Section 498 of IPC) this satatute which provides safeguards to dalits and weaker sections has been misused by the corrupt and dishonest. We see in Govt. offices that many SC/ST candidates misuse the provision and wilfully derelict the duty. It is time that India started thinking about taming this unrestricted provison. This will only help improve efficiency in the government offices.

Agree with you.People are afraid to call the SC/ST corrupt for fear of being accused of being anti SC/ST and being hauled up.The leaders of this community have not set a good example and are not role models.Asish Nandy should not have blamed this community alone since the upper castes are equally corrupt since they were the ruling elite all these days.

Human greed is common to all communities and unless we have a transparent and effective systems all sections will continue to indulge in corruption.Society as a whole has degenerated and the govt has failed completely with the leaders setting an example of how to be corrupt.
