th sc/st act itself is a basis for corruption
by Sandeep Mukherjee on Jan 31, 2013 01:17 PM

does corruption mean only making money?is misuse of power for personal /sectarian gains also corruption? what nandy has said is right or wrong..can be judged late. but this threat to put him in jail right away for expressing his views .. is this not corruption in the first place? what is the idea? to stop all views which go against me and my group? if everyone expressing views which someone doesnt like is to be put in jail then the entire country would be a jail ! does this not prove that these groups are extremely corrupt in so far as they want to thrive on intimidation and blackmail and threats? this is exactly what mayawaiti always did whenever anyone qouted facts about her corruption !

The shades of corruption
by ravi prakash on Jan 31, 2013 12:06 PM

It is said that the greed of man is boundless. It may also be added that the man's capacity for evil is also boundless.
Corruption is evil and cannot be rationlised as being somewhat acceptable in some form and non acceptable in other form.
Corruption works against all that is good, wholesome and trustworthy. No religion can accept corruption as a part of its dogma and likewise no decent society can countenance it.
If our public life has been debased it is because all civilized norms have been overturned by the greed of our political leaders.
We as a nation have discarded all that unifies us and have chosen to use the same perverted logic of setting one caste against another, one community against another and one region against another. We have used corrupt means to achieve these ends and have debased and degraded everything in sight and out of sight.
Today intellectual corruption forms the centre piece of our political ideology, and debased education, commercial corruption has tainted our trade and business, judicial corruption our law and order, and bureaucratic corruption our public services. Even our religious institutions are not free from this taint as bogus godmen and charlattans abound in fleecing the gullible.
It is difficult to fathom where this will lead but in the international community, we may soon join the ranks of Somalia or Nigeria and other drug and banana republics. India is on its way to become a hellish place where a voice against corruption is stifled

katu staya and Ice cream analogy
by Ramesh on Jan 31, 2013 07:13 AM

In a recent article in Rediff a comparison was made regarding per capita ice cream consumptions in various nations. In US it is 20.8kg while India has only 0.1kg. What does this imply? Most children in India do not eat ice cream, sadly have never eaten ice cream.

Now which is the best yardstick to segment the deprived children? Can it be region or religion or political party? It can only be depressed castes in Indian context.

The focus of Dr. Nandy for the matter under discussion was caste and economic development. If the corruption money goes towards deprived sections, including their children eating ice cream it is worth it. While the corruption of upper castes is abhorrent.

This is the katu satya. Now those who believe in satyam bruyat priyam bruyat even in the realm of soft sciences and have higher concern for being politically right instead of intellectual integrity, they may find the discourse of Dr. Nandy worth rooting against.

Having had the say, time for this cracked tea pot to stop brewing.

In India the dalits and OBCs are comparatively poor people and when some of them gets political leadership or beaurocratic powers they may be tempted to make some fortunes

Not wrong
by John Carter on Jan 30, 2013 10:49 AM

He was definitely not wrong!

He was referring to Maya, Mulayam and other backward caste leaders who are highly corrupt!

Corruption among the backward caste leaders is particularly dastardly because they are the ones who are responsible for protecting backward caste people from being exploited and not profit from the exploitation!

We have strange people. Any one who is acknowledged as a celebrity, becomes a controversial person in split seconds.Ashsh Nandi is the latest. All do deny, make excuses-like spoken in context, twisted by media etc; Why on earth these expressions be debated?,if he really feels corruption is based in certain sections of society, let him file a case and fight to contain it or join people like Anna Hazare, Why blabbering in public? Too much in abusing in the name of freedom.
