The earth quake did not occur in JAPAN. It occured in the sea. Likewise, what if it occurs in Arabian Sea. All the while it was thought that in MUMBAI there will never be a storm. And in 2006, 2000 people died in ONE NIGHT in floods.

India should not go for nuclear power for the following reasons

1) We are an excessively thickly populated country and if some disaster happens then crores of
people will die, wherever you put the plant.
2) We do not have the necessary dedication to maintain it with the high security standards required.
Our cabinet ministers themselves are so corrupt, one in jail right now, how can we expect total dedication
from the security staff and other scientists?
3) National interests and patriotism are now only in the books, we have started worshipping businessmen
who have become billionaires, by hook or crook, and we have no respect for work or workers. Those
who are going to work or maintain security at nuclear plants will have no motivation to work at all.
With such motication levels it is very difficult to expect tight security and commitment.
4) We have this terrorism problem and it is not going to be solved in the next 1000 years. A good
percentage of out own population is actually in support of terrorists and naxals. Our leaders are ready
to sell anything to anyone for money.
5) We do not have a good punishment system in our country for those who do crimes. Example Raja,
Raju, Afzal, Kasab excetera.

In a democracy you have to treat terrorists, corrupt as human, only through loooooooooooooooong legal procedures you can punish them. Its issue. Solution is judiciary should be revamped and subject to libereralisation. Why we need vacation 2 months for courts?

1) Death of crores of people can happen by Tsunami also against which no country has defense. Nuclear power is a must for defense as well as generation of electricity. I an aircraft crashes almost all the passengers will die. That does not mean that people should stop travelling by air. In the present world, if we are not nuclear power, then we will have to submit to others who have it.
2) We need to inject patriotism in our young generation rather than thinking like North Indians, South Indians, Marathis etc.
3) True, but the people of India will have to rise against the corrupt rulers like how it is happening in the Arab world now.
4) True, as long as people think their religion is the best, it will keep on happening.
5) True, anyone who is hurting the security and communal harmony of the country should be killed forthwith irrespective of their religion.

Nuclear enrgy in India
by ashok paricha on Mar 17, 2011 12:27 PM

The disaster management system, political manipulations, subverting norms and inefficiency of our systems should prohibit all sensible people to go aganist installation of nuclear power plants in India. Why not explore hydroelectric projects which can be implemented in many states in India or go for thermal projects.Seeing our attitude to disasters and with the level of preparedness that we have we should rethink of such energy.

however safely
by chintan jhunjhunwala on Mar 17, 2011 12:19 PM

however safely unstalled a nuclear power plant is always a risk element.best is to rely on solar energy which though expensive in the short term will be safe and cheap in the long run.second there is no fuel required which india has to acquire from other countries as there is enough sunshine throughout the year.
