.....for giving me such a wonderful childhood, rich with the stories from the great epics, our brave heroes and the history of my motherland. I fondly remember the hours and hours I spent in the world of ACK, reading and re-reading them many times over. My childhood wouldn't have been what it was had it not been for the amar chitra kathas. I shudder to even think about growing up without them. Thank you very much, Uncle Pai. The service that you offered to Indian children is incredible!
For whatever good traits I do possess now, I owe it to my childhood reading habits. And Amar Chithra Katha played a major role in moulding me as an avid reader.
I remember around 25 years back then, Tinkle used to invite stories from the readers and if selected by Uncle Pai for publication, would get Rs 20. I wrote to him around 3-4 times, but never did my story get selected. Uncle Pai would himself send a letter and encourage to try harder the next time. Tinkle used to be my favorite comic and I would eagerly wait for my fried to get his subscription copy(since I didnt have the money to subscribe for one). May your soul rest in peace Uncle Pai.
The useless Govt of India has honored talentless actors like Saif Ali Khan with a Padmashri but great men like Uncle Pai and their contribution have been ignored completely. Please honor him with a Padma Bhushan posthumously

some people grow bigger than any awards buddy, he is one of them. The biggest award any human being can ask for is respect and love of millions like us, Shri Anant Pai has headed for heaven for sure.
Tinkle existed way before 1984, I remember reading it from 1982 COULD NOT have been launched in 1984.... rediff pay some decent money for decent journos and writers who get basic facts right... cheapskates

1st issue of Tinkle was published in December, 1980 (Rs.2.00) - I still have my copy safely.
I grew up on comics (western & Indian). But i liked Amar Chitra Kathas a lot... they were about our culture & heritage and lot more interesting. When i was a kid, 'Uncle' Pai had come to our school (i was in 4th std). I even took his autograph, which i have to this day. Hope they dont discontinue his comics. We need honest, hardworking people like him. That will make our country better. May his soul rest in peace.
My knowledge of India's classics is based more upon his comics. Even serious reading of Mahbharata and Vedas was inspired by his brand of comics called, Amar Chitra Katha. May his name remain Amar.
Indian fine art field has lost three illustrious personalities in quick succession during the past three days.Besides Pai,two more artiste of Telugu celluloid & literature viz Mikkilineni Radhakrishna & Mullapudi Venkata Ramana have left for heavenly abode just on the other two previous days. While the former was, besides being a very good stage actor once, a versatile actor who played excellent mythological roles & had more than 570 films to his credit, the latter-Ramana,one of the duo"Bapu & Ramana"whom it is difficult even to imagine without either was known for his wit & humour & his first creation of the child character "Budugu'which was the trend setter & remembered forever by all the yester-years children.May God rest all the departed souls in peace.
