A Godsend Man
by Vijay Krishnan on Feb 25, 2011 02:22 PM  | Hide replies

Dear All,
Uncle Pai was not only an Uncle to the all of us but he was a god send angel to people like me and most of us. Not many may know that he used to also conduct Personality Development workshops in his small office at Ranade Road, Dadar(W)popularly known as Kabutarkhana in Bombay. I attended one such workshop after I failed in my FYBsc in 1994 and after the culmination of this workshop my life was changed forever. He gave each one of us a certificate after the successful completion of the course and personally signed by Him. I still have the certificate in which He wrote, "Dear Vijay, Believe in yourself and you will do still better in life" Golden words by a legendary man and trust me people, this man changed my life. God Bless Him, may his soul and heart rest in peace. Sai Ram

Uncle Pai was truly God sent to Indian children. Amar Chitra Katha was a must read for school going Kids. I wonder if the Indian tradition and culture could have been so succinctly communicated a generation as what Uncle Pai did. We shall be grateful to him. Wonder what Indian Government has done to Honor him for his lifetime of work for Indian Children. may His soul Rest in Peace.

Guys

Not sure if you read the news… This man passed away yday.

I will never forget the occasion when I met this gentleman at a AKC quiz competition 2 score years ago at Hotel Atlantic in Egmore. I still vividly remember that day. It was raining heavily and reached the place a bit late.

I still managed to participate in the quiz and if my memory serves me right I got through to the fourth or fifth round and I was given my first ever cheque for INR 100/- (no doubt a princely sum those times).

I also remember taking this cheque to Grindlays Bank at Anna Salai opp the old CITI Bank office(hope old timers remember it) and said I want to open an account. They very politely refused me saying something about minimum balances which did not make sense to me at that point in time. That was the first time I had tried to open an account on my own…

Anant Pai was certainly an harbinger of his times. He inculcated the passion of reading in many youngsters (yours truly also included).

May his soul RIP.

Regards
Bala

we cannot forget the cartoon characters like suppandi, kalia the crow, tantri the mantri, shikari shambu ... created by this wonderful person. It is great to know that even our former Prime Minister Mr. Vajpayee is a fan for Tinkle.

i think he should be one among the few to invite stories from the young world and publish it in his comic books. the kids were so excited those days when his/her name is reflected in the Tinkle Book. The letter of appreciation sent by Uncle Pai is considered to be a valuable treasure for the kids those days. May his soul rest in peace.

I have fond memories of pestering my Grandpa to buy me Amar Chitra Katha's every week during his evening walks and he, used to pampering on every ocassion, would indulge me.
It was so nice nd I still miss reading those fabulous books. Thanks uncle Pai.

What a legacy he has left!!!!!!!!!!!
by hariharan s on Feb 25, 2011 02:07 PM

The news brought back d school days nostalgia....During the time where we had just 1 channel(doordarshan),no internet,no cable,no playstation,no reality shows.....
The combo of Tinkle,Gokulam,Chandamama, and ACK provided a great deal of entertainment...In fact,it helped us learn new words, scienific facts(anu's club) and most importantly the zeal to read....
Though Tinkle was too costly those days...we made partnership with frnds to buy an issue and share it among others....
Also,ACK helped the children to learn about our epics and hidden morals in it...

Even though American culture tried to seep in by Archie Comics thru some show-off in d class, who wanted to advertise that he has a cousin abroad....ACK was a firm favorite among the Indian kids....

I feel lucky I was born in that generation than this playstation, fastfood, reality series, pokemon generation.....
