Have anyone of you seen the cockpit ? I am sure most of you have not even driven the car.Most of time,we cannot explain correctly the reasons for scooter/car accidents.Here everyone is commenting on air-crash just he had a degree on the subject.One intelligent fellow wrote-if the pilot had followed the scientific measurements of height in travel, density of air and weight of craft etc. this type of accidents can be stopped- Mr.intelligent fellow pl.tell from which National/International Agency you have completed such a deep search that you are saying-if the filot had followed....So pl.do't submit foolish self made ideas on such a vital issue, leave it to experts. FYI
There is something called ILS (Instrumental Landing System) which is installed at almost all the airports which guides the planes to the exact point of touchdown. In an airport with Table top runway this system would help tremendously. The pilots take care of just lowering the landing gears and the braking.
Now was the ILS available at the Mangalore Airport is the question? If yes then was it functional? Overshooting is the most common things that happen across the world but what really matters is the number of lives lost.
As per the NTSB (USA) guidelines the end portion of a runway should be covered with a considerable amount of sand or soft dust which would stop the aircraft from crossing the airport boundaries by getting the wheels jammed into it. The length depends on the Aircrafts that use the runway.
Was that available at the Mangalore Airport? Err Yes… 30 mtrs… 30 mtrs…..????
That wont even stop a speeding Maruti 800… and we are talking about a Boeing 737-800!!!

Crews and aircrafts are NEVER overburdened. There are stringent rules to operate aircrafts. Crews and not allowed to fly beyond certain hours. There are limitations of number of take offs and landings. No pilot can take off or land his aircraft more than three or four times in a day...even on hopping flights. There are limitations on load of the aircraft which depends on variety of factors. Therefore, the statement that crews and aircrafts are overhurdened is absolutely INCORRECT. Usual and normal turn around time of an aircraft is 40 minutes...that is the accepted norm. So it is unrealistic to say that the aircrafts are not properly serviced at Dubai airport in view of early turn around of the aircraft is also INCORRECT.
Flying in a particular sector does not mean a traveller becomes aviation expert.

Well said. I really feel sad, that our media is making these kind of bullish statements, just like that.
In other countries, the media work for the development of the country. Pity, in our country, to get TRP ratings, what so ever, just throwing what ever it comes to them.
GOD BLESS US ALL THERE SHOULD BE NO ISSUES BUT THE RECTIFICATION FOR FUTURE AND PROPER MAINTENANACE. PRESS SHOULD KEEP THEM -SELF AWAY AND PILOT SHOULD NOT BE BLAIMED FOR ANY FAULTS. THE POLITICIANS ARE SMART TO BLAME ANYBODY. MATHUR
National geographic channel had a series of aircrash investigation and to find the route cause of the crash it takes on an average 1 year to come out with the cause of the crash and idiotic media is seculating left right and center

I agree with you to the extent that there should not be any speculation till the investigation is over. However, what comes out poitively from all this media hype is that atleast people know the harsh realities such as our national carrieer don't have a full time COO
there are two many factors for mlr air tragedy. a media person or a layman cant give the conclusion for the disaster. a thorugh enquiry by the committe will unravel all the mystery behind the accident. factors like how much gallons of fuels was loaded into the aircraft, whether passengers were allowed to carry more than prescribed luggage onboard, whether aircraft was overloaded for free landing. dont blame pilots or anyone. its over & done... accidents can happend anywhere, anytime & on any vehicle.

Sensible statement in a sea of callous utterings.
No Pilot would fly an aircraft which is over-loaded. He will loose his license (means of livelihood) if that is detected. It does not, however, mean that the aircraft could not have been overloaded.
Before take off, the pilot gets a load sheet and trim sheet from the ground staff. The sheets states the total load of the aircraft and the distribution of the load. If the load was more, the pilot would not have flown the aircraft. In case the aircraft was over loaded, the responsible ground staff will have to be made accountable for the loss of so many lives.
This is no time for speculation, particularly when the crews are not there to tell their sides of the incident. Let us wait for the findings of the experts.

In todays life in every job the employees r over burdened wiith work. But this doesnot mean they make mistakes. If they do make a mistake and if its not taken care in proper time the results are disasterous.
If a doctor makes a mistake during operation a patient can loose his life.
If an engineer in an factory makes a mistake life of hundreds can be on stake. If a an army officer makes a mistake on the battele field lifes of hundreds of soildies is on stake.
If a driver (engine, bus or any other vechicle) makes a mistake life of many people is again on stake.
If this pilot had aborted the landing in the mid air without touching the ground the accident could have been avoided and he could have come back for a second time for landing.
