All Airlines Operate the same way
by Babu on May 23, 2010 06:24 PM  | Hide replies

Mr.Walter dosent know that not only from Mangalore to Dubai from many other longer haul flights to frankfurt, London, Singapore, hongkong etc operate the same way. they fly for 10hrs have a 2hr stop and again fly back. Dubai is even shorter hence had to be better. Know the facts and then talk just because you flew only to Dubai....

Aircraft are not let to be museum pieces and there is fuel efficiency and many other ratios and parameters that come to play. All the gulf based airlines that come to the UK for instance such as emirates halt for 3 hours and fly back to home base and the cabin crew work for minimum of 8 hours. One must understand the nature of a persons work and the industry before shooting from one's hip!

Very correct, I travel long haul frequently there is a 2 hr break between a trip of 8-9 hrs so whu should DXB be different. In fact DXB India flights will be like domestic flights in the US or Canada. The problem is that guys who don not know much blabber and its posted on Rediff as a srticle.

AI followed procedure, DGCA followed procedure, the airport meets international standards for the aircraft type permitted to land in Mangalore. Many airports worldwide have more difficult airports to land. Its sheer bad luck that this happened. Pilot errors do happen and its unfortunate. We can only sympathasize with the families and offer max assistance.

But for those distances, the crew is changed...
for distances of 3 hrs or so, the same crew accompanies in the return journey as well..

they say even the aircraft is overburdend.. which is not true.. may be crew because AI cannot afford to pay and change crew.. so let the passerger not suffer but die.

For a flight of 4 hrs with a 2 hr break and return its a total time of 10 , max 12 hrs cosidering initial ingress times. These are acceptable FDTL in almost all countries now. Maybe AI initially had a flight limitation of less than 11 hrs and now its increased to international norms but then why blame AI for it?. Incidentally the pilot was a foreign national who must be very well used to 12 hrs shifts.

Flying is not really a complex affair. Lot of rest is available on board for the Commander with the AP on and the FO monitoring the flight and radio communications. Skills of the commander is required mainly during emeregencies and on difficult landings or landings at airports without ILS on bad weather days.

The black box cannot be tampered with. This is well-known to all. Your attempt to smear Mr Praful Patel is cheap and meaningless. Mr Patel is an honest and upright person who has helped Air India to grow and prosper so that it can be among the best airlines in the world. Mr Praful Patel is doing an excellent job under the guidance of Mdm Sonia Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh and Mr Rahul Gandhi.

Everyone knows that Air India has an excellent safety record and it has dedicated and loyal employees who have been doing an excellent job. We need not criticize Mr Praful Patel withour reason. Even Dr Manmohan Singh has expressed his confidence in Mr Praful Patel's handling of the Civil Aviation Ministry.

Air India Safety Record...Funny Man... We live in India and India is a country where Truth is safe in a locker and not in media or exposed unless someone private (not govt.)probes into it...I agree with people who believe tat the govt. would hide the reasons to save the skin of AI as it is a nation owned carrier and also the save skin of the minister....(I agree the minister is unlucky to be in tat place, so do the govt - ppl wud start the gameplay, but the responsibility lies with them who sits on the chair)

This Mangalore flight is hit by unfortune. We got eight alive. The black box reveal some story. Road accidents occur. Train accidents occur. Even though the best driver cant escape. The space travel is safe if you are lucky.

IN ROAD ACCIDENTS NO MINISTER/NO MLA/NO CORPORATE VISIT THE SPOT AND ANNOUNCE RELIEF FUND. BUT IN AIR CRASH (BECAUSE HIGHER MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE/RICH PEOPLE TRAVEL), ALL VIPS, MINISTERS VISIT THE SPOT AND ANNOUNCE RELIEF. THIS IS INDIA

wont be surprised
by gmat on May 23, 2010 05:22 PM  | Hide replies

i wont be surprised if this crash is due to pilot fatigue. in india, we have the habit of not following basic human work-rest convention. we feel that if a person works he doesnt deserve the right to rest. and, since the owners/managers pay salary they feel that they actually own the person and can make him work as much as they want to. i come from shipping sector and, in this industry too most of my colleagues feel the same way. That juniors dont need to rest. they are here to work. and if any junior tries to complain of fatigue, he is immediately branded as a "useless worker". this is indian psyche. 200 yrs of being slaves to the british has ingrained in our system that we are still slaves.

i guess u say this becos u r that kind of person who thinks it is your "right" to make ur subordinates work as and when you wish. you sound that kind of a person who expects his juniors to be in the office before you come in even if its 6 am and leave after u leave, even if its after 8 pm and there is no work. u do not achieve any productive work only satisfaction that u hv spent 12 hrs at work place mayb becos u dont hv a life. so go get a life. what u achieve in 12 hrs at office, i do the same amt or more in 8 hrs (and that is real work) not some drama.
