One sincere advice to Mr.Nilekani
by ContraView on Jun 05, 2010 03:06 PM

One sincere advice to Mr.Nilekani. Stop giving updates on progress and your vision every week to media (unless u r doing it for publicity). First achieve something in Govt Sector. Otherwise you critics will pounce on you. Also, please dont forget - there are many more brilliant officers who have work silently in the Govt. People (who matter) will eventually compare you with them. You cant afford a highly publicised failure.

UID is a fantastic project started by GOI and will surly bring good in long terms than the bad,the simple reason is that before making nay plan one should have the realistic data base and thats the base for any social and economic welfare scheme and UID will provide you the same. the argument about privacy is a joke here any tom dick and herry have all your mobile numbers today so dont just bother of that may be UID will be helpful to carry out the work at faster pace and with more accuracy
support UID

Praful Bidwai, former editor of The Times of India too has argued that the UID-NPR-Census link is illegitimate. The UID project looks like a solution in search of problems. It is sought to be justified through social and pro-poor functions that are well beyond its core-purpose and can perhaps be achieved by equally efficient means. Its core rationale and primary purpose is much less lofty than its extravagantly claimed social benefits. It lies in security, surveillance and control.

Suppose if UID is scrapped it won't help poor.

It has an objective, like most of states in the this is meant for Identification on a citizen.

The Pakis and Bengkaladeshis will have to leave the country.

Probably Lalu Prasad and The Samajwadi Yadav might shelter them In UP or Bihar.

It a good project if implemeted correctly, check Immigration, and keep the traitors away.

Your naivete is good.

UID will be FIRST granted to Bangladeshis and Pakis. THATS THE PLAN.

Communists have been winning in WB , by giving voter id cards to such people.

Whatever it is, this project is going to make infosys, tata and others richer and myself and others poorer as my taxes are paid in premium to them.

You sound like the JNU brand left socialists who have a conspiracy theory for all development. Anything can be a weapon of Govt or capitalist etc. I think for people like you the poor in India are poor because otherwise you have no existence. Because of people like you development has not touched millions because you dont believe in it. You believe that the poor must suffer in jungle because that is their habitat.. So mean.

New nautanki by the upa...........
by b bharati on Jun 05, 2010 02:48 PM

"The working paper of the UIDAI revealed that the 'UID number will only guarantee identity, not rights, benefits or entitlements'. It is also said that it would not even guarantee identity, it would only provide 'aid' in identification." what is this new nautanki of the UPA govt for...is it to sell this data to enemies during riots and during peacetime to private companies to boost their sales! Or maybe Mr Nandan Nilekani is too bored of his old job and needs new entertainment which the govt seems responsible to fund at the taxpayers expense!

the day is not too far that we will have a card called ACIC(ALL CARDS INFORMATION CARD), which would answer the number of cards one has and the night is not too far that we will not require playing cards as we will play cards with numerous smart cards, keep them hanging around our neck as garland of cards.

To scrap or not to scrap?
by ContraView on Jun 05, 2010 02:47 PM  | Hide replies

To scrap or not to scrap? I dont know :-)

Only thing i can say with conviction is the project faces major challenges in implementation. I have seen the implementation of these projects at Govt for several years. While the Govt intentions are mostly good, most of these are outsourced to low cost vendors by major firms such as TCS/ CMC, Wipro, etc. When the data is at the heart of this project, ensuring its quality is of paramount importance. This is not possible when a C grade vendor starts working.

One sincere advice to Mr.Nilekani. Stop giving updates on progress and your vision every week to media. First achieve something. Otherwise you critics will pounce on you. Also, please dont forget - there are many more brilliant officers who have work silently in the Govt. People (who matter) will eventually compare you with them. When we are genuine citizens of our country and we have nothing to hide, why should we oppose it? Only those who feel guilty, have some nasty things to hide or whose concise is not clear, they only oppose such a move.
