I d hope with the increased security all around us we have the far sight to import the multi role fighters before the 2015, other wise it would become and large and obselete force with no teeth. its would have been better if we would manufacture such planes within our own nation, but thats not to be atleast for now. We have to import on adhoc but put in place a system where we have time bound r&d right thought deliveries. but its seems that the political leadership would rather import makes more economic sence.
Quickly we should get into colloborate R&D and also indegenous R&D. We are very slow in this aspect. Countries like Chaina have developed capabilities to develop their own Products where as we still import. This is very pathetic.

We will import until we dont bring "Reservation" in private sector. Once thats done, everything will be comblete success.

Mr. Ventakeshwara Rao, U have made good observation. I have been for quite sometime in rediff stressing the need to built indigenously these fighter aircrafts as these both fighter/defence aircrafts as well as civil aircrafts like Boeing, Airbus are proving to be too costly for us to import again and again. I think we should develop these both defence as well as civil aircrafts quickly of our own. so that we can save multibillion dollars. I strongly stress the need for more money to be spent on R&D to develop these machines indigenously as fast as possible.

To design and produce our own equipment and machineries like the Japs and West, our HRD ministry should on a warfooting reserve more seats in IIT's and our premier institutions to minorities,Sc/St etc.
Russia have proved itself in bad phases of India..We cannot trust USA, Britain or France. They see india as a big defense market. They Give F-16 to Pakistan and F-22 Raptor to India. India should procure Russian Made Sukhois or Mig-29 K Klass Fighter Aircraft in its arsenal Rather Than procuring it from USA or Britain. coz in long term these would certainly cause a problem for india not supplying the Maintenance Hardware to India. India also should stop procuring 2nd Grade spare parts thats why our fighter planes are crashing every now and then. India should look forward to develop a fighter jet on its own. Not Like LCA (Single Jet Engine ) which when would be included would be straight away become obsolete coz it is based on 1985 Technology.
