India should stop investing in defence!
by Corba Sub on Jun 04, 2009 11:46 PM  | Hide replies

When 3/4th of the people are suffering from poverty, many are living on less than 1 US dollar day (little better than saharan Africa based on a UN report), why should we spend over 25% of our budget to defence. Why can't we join NATO and let the developed nations protect us ?

NATO protection is much more expensive as compared to desi army.

Asking for NATO protection is like asking a gvt. employee to buy a mercedes when all he needs is a Nano.

Look at Singapore and learn. They have smartly aligned with US and focussing on their development. I know it is difficult to think in the land of commies.

So that we dont become slaves again. Independence is more important than money. You may want NATO, but they dont want you.

As a citizen of India, it is important for us to know about our armed forces and their weaponry.
Though what needs to be hidden never becomes public.

- OLD, FIGHTER PLANES LIKE F-16, F-18/ WHOSE ENGINES AND GUNS CAN BE SHUT OFF,
BY A SIMPLE REMOTE COMMAND FROM ANY AMERICAN-SATELLITE

And you have the proof that America has been dumping all these junk in India since 1859?? and that too in collusion with the Congress mantris!!. Seems quite a feat to achieve considering Congress party was only founded in 1885.

Perhaps you should brush up on your history before you post any further messages!

Compared with China
by Abhik RayChaudhury on Jun 04, 2009 09:25 PM

very little is actually known about the PLA. It has not been in any combat situation for a long time. During early 1970's China attacked Vietnam to 'punish' them, however was soundly repeled the vietnamese. Interestingly, this was achieved by a vietnamese 'B" team, as the experienced battle hardened personnel of the viet. army were campeigning in Cambodia at that time (perhaps thats why China chose that timeframe)
The other time was 1962 'war' with India in which Indian army was routed by the chinese. However, any student of that war will notice the utter lack of preparedness of the indians vs. the chinese. this was not the fault of the army but of the political leaders who controled it. Neville Maxwel's 'India's China War', The Henderson-Brooks report and Brig.palit's 'War in the High Himalayas' are a few sources that may be informamtive.

our IAF air crafts
by RTI act on Jun 04, 2009 09:21 PM  | Hide replies

We frequently read in our news papers about IAF plain crash. It is highest rate in the world. Not only MIGs but most advanced aircrafts such as Jaguars and Mirages have crashed in the hands of IAF pilots. What are the reasons? each military air craft cost several crores of rupees. MIG said to be around 44 crores. Others are more expensive. It takees several years to get an Military air craft due to political reasons and restrictions. Pilots can be trained in tow years. Any comment please?

India and China conduct more than $50 billion worth of trade per year. War between the two doesn't seem likely or feasible. Nevertheless, India should become as strong as it can, to be prepared to face any problem, whether from China, Pakistan or Madagascar.

No, it is really unfortunate but Chinese army is mightier than Indian army. However, still nobody can say who will win in a war between India and China. Because army is not the only deciding factor in nowadays war. Financial strength is a very major thing. And strategy is also a very major factor to win a war. And another area where we are really lacking is the unity of people. Indian population is very diversified. We are not united and we do not think as an Indian.

And furthermore, Duraiswamy Srinivasan( is that your real name?)
both China and Pakistan are capable of doing damage, even destruction, but they can't "win". Winning is something more deep and profound. Their ideologies are rotten, Pakistan's is terrible.

Rediff: check the postings first

Does no one at Rediff proof read the content before it is posted online?

According to your article the Su-30MKI has 130mm guns? Do you know how big and heavy that would be? Even the T-72 and T-90 main battle tanks are armed with only a single 125mm gun (plus small machine guns). No modern fighter aircraft could even carry such one such gun, let alone "guns" as your article states.

The Su-30MKI actually carries a 30mm cannon. And the gun is properly called the GSh, not GSH.
