And give our police the Insas rifle or the russian A.K 74 rifle.We cannot risk putting the lives of our brave policemen on stake everytime something bad happens.Our police should and must have the advantage while handling dangerous situations caused by anti-socials.

Noce to read ur mail. Waht we need is a more effecient , leaner and more fitter police service. Have you seen the fat slobs we call policemen? Also we need educated men not people who just are given jobs by any means. As for weapons, most countries do NOT arm their policement but have specialists within the police force such as the US SWATs etc. Anti socials need to be brought onto main stream life by the good old adage of not "sparing the rod". Got it? This"Democracy" or what we call "Freedom" or "Azadi" is misunderstood. We need to educate our Nation not only make them "literate" Lots more my dear friend. As regards the IAF, cheers their weapons are getting old but its the man behind the machine. Notice the anomoly?

india is already spending much less than what it is required to spend. take a look at china and pak. visit defencedotpk and see for urself.
the popular saying `if you want peace, be prepared for war' does no longer seem to be appropriate these times. war is no solution for the nations like india, pakistan or the other that are developing countties. the so called leaders should think over the burning issues like unemployment, corruption, communalism etc. and join hands with other nations for friendship, fraternity and respect towards one another. if we all keep increasing or adding to our weapons, the benefit will go but to big and lion mouthed nations like america and other big countries which are just keen on selling the arms to the poor nations and their leaders keep giving statements about the one country or the other just them to divide and rule.

There was this story in the media recently, touting the 'high security' at polling stations in UP, and then you see the image- a couple of stupid-looking cops in ill-fitting 'uniforms', armed to the teeth with a lathi each- this is what's passes for 'high security' in this stinking land. It would be funny were it not so tragic.
All the SU 30 and all the great Armament purchases seem absulutely useless when the first response of India the policeman carries a Lathi or most a 1904 model Lee Enfield 303 riffle.
Lessons of 26-11 were that the average policeman rushed to the call of duty and also died performing their duty. The brave Mumbai policeman who died performing their duties were all armed with the same hitech wepons...wodden Lathis and 1904 model 303 Riffles.!!!
Even policeman in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh carries beter wepons than what a beat constable or a havildar in Indias police force carries.
Police is a state subject but states do not have the money or resources to arm the entire Police force. If India spends Billions of dollars to buy advanced weponery when the experince of last 20 years has shown that its the policeman on the streets who have faced the jihadis face to face and not the SU 30's pilots.
Arm the avrage policeman on the street first as its that expendeture that is going to make the average Indian feel much more safe and secure.
Dont take me in a wrong way, try understand the underlying issue that I am trying to raise here.

your are right. While modernising our military, the government should atleast give 5% importance to our police force.
Even small kids aren't afraid seeing those lathis, then who expects hardcore militants to get scared and run away?
