Why no hue and cry for bollywood muslim girls.
by Vasan Thatai on Sep 18, 2005 01:58 PM

The fatwa over the dress code by maulvis and like is no surprise. This was expected. Expected from most of the maulvis, imams and like. What these maulvis, imams and the fundamentalists don't understand is that there is lot beyond shariat and quran. What is bad is that when all religion and its books have been questioned and subsequently refined..it is only the shariat and quran which did not undergo any refinement or cleansing. This is because no one from the community dares to defy by questioning its virtues.
Dress code and several other codes like Sati, widow re-marriage, premarital sex etc did exist for Hindus, Christians, Parsis etc..however their people rather than blindly sticking to it questioned, studied, understood, refined and embraced change for betterment.
What is surprising is that there is any hue and cry raised against bollywood muslims, males and females alike. There is so much happening there. No noice against them since long..like dress code for the then Zeenat Aman to Dia Mirza.
I expect some reaction from like minded Muslim friends.

by fairooz on Sep 18, 2005 01:31 PM

Hi Ali,
This is India my friend, we r a free nation, if U dont like it avoid it. We shall protest if she cross the limits of our indian culture.
See her as an Indian tennis star.
To know what freedom means stay away from India and you will know how precious our country is.
Go on Sania!
Regards

BACKWARD THINKING
by Ritesh on Sep 18, 2005 12:29 PM

What do these people expect her to play in. These
mullas want her to wear a Burka and play tennis. Its because of these backward opinions that India is not shining in many sports. She is a rising star, leave her alone please. Its 21st century not 12th.

Sania and dress code
by Ramagopal on Sep 18, 2005 11:33 AM

I think it is hypocritical for the BJP to condemn the fatwa against Sania when the RSS and the VHP seek to impose thier brand of Talibanism in India, for instance by attckinf valentine parties. I recollect a fanatical hindu group attacking girls wearing jeans and couples walking hand-in-hand in public.
Relegion is important for many people and i recognise this, though I am an atheist. That is why I would not go around attacking Hindu temple goers and isssuing fatwas aganst bearded muslim men and veiled muslim women, even if I could. Yes, we all have the right to express our views, including our views on sania's dress. By all means call it indecent, but allow her to have her say too. I mean I find some muslim ( and Hindu ) very repulsive, and I should have the freedom to express my views . But For goodness sake let us not use our position to impose our views on others.
The issue is not whether Islam says or does not say what Sania should wear; some say it does while some say it does not; but that does not matter. What matters is our individual freedom. The fight is between those who hate freedom ( Mullahs,RSS etc) and those who cherish it, i.e most of us.

Skirt is right dress code for tennis
by lakshmi on Sep 18, 2005 07:13 AM

Hi all,

Short skirts or shorts is most comfortable dress code for playing tennis. Women wear skirts and men wear shorts.. thats the usual norm. For people who say Sania can play in long shorts like Sampras and Co.. How about you guys wearing quilt.. not even long skirt! doesn't sound good right! So better keep your personal choices to yourself! Do not make religion a issue! If you want to be a religious fanatic, you better live in other suitable religious countries(Do not come back to India because they will say you are still too advanced for them)

Vande mataram!
