Not in India
by Harshal on Sep 17, 2005 05:26 PM

India is growing to become one of the worlds best nation. We dont want Iraq,Afganistan,Pakistan and many sick nations like them. Sania\\\'s dressing is perfectly all right and its the dressing accepted by everyone , so if someone has a problem should seriously check out his/her brain.

An earnest request...
by Sesh on Sep 17, 2005 04:46 PM

This is an earnest request to the following people:

1. The maulvis et all: Kindly concentrate on solving the issues of exploited women of our country. What a woman wears..or does not...is of scant importance in these times of multi - cultural turbulence. People should not lose their respect for the religion of Islam due to the rantings of a so-called 'scholar'.

2. Mr TVR: Excellent article...what next? A 2 page discourse on how long..or short..Sania's skirt should be???? (abounding with comments from many religious "leaders"..of course!!!)

3. Sania Mirza: You are bringing laurels to our country. Continue aiming for new heights and disregard the commments / twisted opinions / absurd fatwas of these so maniacs.

Jai Hind!!

Sania & the dress code
by Mukesh on Sep 17, 2005 02:10 PM

The dress code is not a issue to be highlighted, its a requirement of the sport, instead of commenting on dress code of Sania, maulviji or Muslim personal law board has to announce that no muslim girl is allowed to participate in the sport ,which demands the dress code which is against muslim religion.

Sania, Islam and Muslim Males
by Vjay Pherwani on Sep 17, 2005 01:55 PM

It quite obvious from some posts of Muslim males, that Islamic laws do apply only to females (Sania shud wear long shorts/ or cover her skin using some specially designed costumes etc.) is suggested by them, but pray tell us what's their reaction to unislamic behaviour by the muslim men as reported in media? Salman Khan baring his chest at the drop of the hat/ driving over and killing pavement dwellers/ getting involved in drunken brawls; Fardeen Khan in possesion of banned substance; Saif (earlier)and his father (recently) Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi involved in poaching endangered and protected animals; Azharuddin allegedly involved and subsequently banned for match fixing.
I'm sure all of the above is not permitted by Islam then why not a single protest by muslim males?

Sania's dress code
by Sanjeev on Sep 17, 2005 11:54 AM

Most of the people who have written here have urged the columnist not to give publicity to the maulvi's fatwa. But the point to be noted here it is not only the maulvi but also an organisation like Jammat e hind which is behind this. Now they have threatened to harm Sania if she continues to dress the way she does.

This is one more way of bringing in religion in an unwanted domain. Now if Sania decides to change her dress code, the whole thing will be viewed as bowing down to the pressure of these groups. This will only embolden them to issue more such fatwas on women.

How can a young girl like Sania continue to play well if she is under constant threat by these fringe groups all the time? Common sense should prevail upon them that in this day and age one should be allowed to dress the way one wants, especially when playing sports.
