A flawed comparison
by Firoz on Mar 19, 2003 04:05 AM

It's interesting how you have compared the killings of Muslims in Godhra to the deaths of Kashmiri pundits in Kashmir. Were the deaths of Kashmiri pundits a result of state-sponsored genocide ? Or were the deaths of Muslims in Gujarat the work of some Hindu-terrorist group ? Would you mind shedding some light on this, Mr Rajeev Srinivasan (or should I say Mr Rajeev Togadia ?)

The Jaichand syndrome.

Mr Rajeev, has no idea about the reality and his main story is Muslims and muslims. He is a communalist to the core. Rediff should not allow this type of people to put their opinion

A brilliant article!
by Rohan Korde on Mar 19, 2003 03:15 AM

What a brilliantly written article! The author has given stunning and effective insights in the internal, back-end, regional power-play and emerging politico-business dynamics in South-east Asia vis-a-vis China. What's more, he's also cited sources, straight in the piece; something rarely seen these days! I believe that it is great practice for a writer to comment and editorialize by stating facts upfront.

I feel that it is high time, India flexed it's economic and geo-political muscle in driving home it's intentions. In a global economy, every nation needs to be assessed not merely by its Forex reserves or purchasing power parity but also by it's brand equity. It is the people of a nation who build this brand equity with their productivity and reputation. Any damage to this brand equity results in a loss of international 'business' respect.

India is an emerging brand but a brand, few people are willing to invest in, on a large scale right now. We need to know why this is so!

The software advantage has provided India with the greatest opportunity in it's history to bridge the gap between economic disparity. This competitive advantage is a virtual system of wealth creation for our people.

Consequently, it is important that our IT workers don't get commoditized and lose value. I believe that religious overtones can be tamed and their fanned fires can be quelled by the correct application of economic might and sound foreign policy.

So, go ahead, India, in the light of facts and do the needful!!

SHAME
by Doc on Mar 19, 2003 02:37 AM

Mr. Srinivasan again brings his idiotic theories of religious connections into this. If anything happens in Malaysia or Mutthanga(Kerala, india) there are the usual suspects:
1. Islamic jihadis or christians or christian missionaries
3. No muslims were killed in Gujarat. only hindus were.Everything what foriegn journalists report from india are conspiracies from JNU professors.

Excellent article
by Arvind on Mar 19, 2003 02:16 AM

Rajiv...I wish the Indian Govt. has the guts to do at least 25% of what you have advocated. I think at this time in history; if we, as Indians fail to think as a Nation and assert our rightful place in the world, will end up fighting proxy countries like Pakistan, Malaysia etc and the dream of becoming a global giant will remain a dream.

India's reply should be strong
by nirmal bhide on Mar 19, 2003 02:12 AM

I think India has made the right noise by asking the Indian team not to go for the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tourney.Any Hockey tourney without India is like a football without Brazil,Argentina or Italy.

India has to show to all that we are a force to reckon with.

I think building ourselves economically and militarilly is the answer.I am sure Malaysia would have thought twice before treating our IT professionals in this manner had an Indian Navy aircraft carrier or nuclear submarine been somewhere close in the Indian Ocean.

I dont say that militarily they should be threatened.I think India shud have 3-4 aircraft carrier groups and may 2 nuclear submarines.

The next step should be that we should ask the malaysian police to apologise and if this does not happen we should cut off economic ties and downgrade our diplomatic realtions.

I think it is high time these minnow states stop treating us with contempt.First it was Bangladesh, then Indonesia and now Malaysia.
