Its a well written article. Indians all over the world should wake up to the threats to a powerful India. They must never forget that they have the ability , opportunity and strength to make India shine.

The Jaichand syndrome
by anabayar on Mar 18, 2003 07:36 PM

A few points need to be noted. The world is growing smaller and we cannot afford to alienate country after country. The incidents described in the article could well be a one off case. Would it not better to sit and negotiate with the Malaysians rather than threatening them? Surely we have much more to gain through Synergy than ending up like Israel with enemies all around us. Yes!!! We need to protect Indians wherever they are. No!!! We cannot threaten and rant and rave on each and every incident. Also the article accuses the Indian government of complacency. I dont think so. I think they are handling it rather well...maybe they can be a bit more forceful...all said and done, remember violence begets violence.

Excellent article and a warning to Indians!!
by Agg on Mar 18, 2003 07:19 PM

Exactly same thing can happen in US to the Indian IT professionals. Just look at the articles/news in NYT, WP, NPR (to whom I have sent many letters explaining the true picture) by the obnoxious Indian Marxists, the biggest Hindu-bashers that will surely shame Aurangjeb anyday. Can we "Indians" not counter these in any way or shape or form? Do we have any fighting spirit of our anestors left or do we "mistakenly" think if we ignore it will go away??? Thanks Rajiv for another great article and thanks rediff...

Good Comments

At last we have found an eminent person with good prudence. The comments appeared in the above article are true probably in all matters. I think this is the time for other so called intelectuals and secular persons to look into every issue from non-communal lines.

An article that seems a little biased!

as far as the NGOs and other ppl quoting twice or thrice the number of official figures in number of dead in gujarat, hell somehow of the two they are stil much more believable.

and about 'mostly muslim' seiously what do you think????? i mean jeez!

Nobody is accusinh Hinduism here. Its a great religion and one of tolerance. But hey fanatic hindus do a lot to hurt the cause. And they should be blamed!

Ok this article is primarily an eceonomic one and I hate to drag this issue here, but looks like he couldn't keep out of it either...wonder why

be an indian beyond religion

more importantly be human beyond nationality

peace

Public at large will never know the truthful figure of casualities whether it be riots or rail accidents. The question is whether the mindless description of incidences in India causes hurt to its own nationals when they are travelling/staying abroad. The answer, beyond any doubt, is YES! Perhaps the author of the letter inwardly believes that a few Indians (especially when they belong to a certain religion) getting ill-treated on foreign soil is a good thing. Perhaps, he thinks that it is right to encourage the kind of reporting that promotes violence against Indians, but I have little doubt that the recent incidences in Indonesia and Malaysia have a high correlation with motivated reports in media. Finally, just to deflect the attention from the religious/ethnic overtones, let me also add that ideas like serpents crawling on the Indian streets get implanted in the minds of the citizens of the developed world mainly because of a lopsided narrations of Indian authors..

In the end, these images limit the economic performance of your community. That is why, in the market driven economy of today, one can be truly hopeful that the motivated propaganda will end sooner than later. Economy will dictate that.
