Excellent article. India is taking all the right steps with Malaysia. No more taking it lying down.

This incident may or may not be inspired by Leftists propaganda but here in US their propaganda has had major impact as author mentioned. Attempt to defame honorable India Development & Relief Fund (IDRF) and SEVA international is a good example of Leftists betrayal to India. When you read the research report (http://www.letindiadevelop.org) then you realize people behind the mischief and their motives.

all roads lead to ...

The religious angle,Rajeev Srinivasan has gone on overdrive!Did the Malasians ask the religion of Indian IT proffessionals when they were detained?Only Hindu engineers were beaten up?For Rajeev Srinivasan,it seems all roads lead to "hate Muslims and Leftists".He says the western media dismisses Godhra with a word or two and criticise the ensuing riots. Is it so hard to find the reason? That is just because the 'government' aided the riots.Kashmiri Pandits,I don't understand what the government has to do with it.Do the Kashmiri terrorist organisations listen to western media and change their policies?
And the American preacher in Kerala, from where did Rajeev know that he spread hatred against Hindus?Only the RSS in Kerala said that. The Maraman convension has been going on in Kerala for many many years, and even Hindus sometimes attend it.Please leave Kerala out of this arguments,we down there, are proud of our ability to think and reason, instead of believing what cowlove-Hindus or Muslim Jehadis dish out to us.

Misunderstood
by Mani on Mar 19, 2003 07:27 AM

I am not sure what kind of research goes on before Rajiv Srinivasan writes on the topic regarding to what happened to IT professionals in Malaysia recently. Having stayed in Singapore for almost 4 years now and also having interacted closely with Malaysians, I can probably say with confidence that Rajiv's explanation for the motive behind the Malaysian action seems mighty miscued. I suggest he does more homework before writing his piece.

Last year the Malaysian Government started issuing what is called a Professional Pass for IT professionals . A professional Pass was supposed to be easier to obtain in comparision to a Work Permit and was supposed to be for short term - 6 months. But unfortunately this move was misused, as a lot of shell companies and other small companies started "selling" these Professional Pass. Take a trip down to Brickfields in KL and you know that how easy it is to obtain a Visa for 6 months stay. Everything can be done at a "price". Obviously there were a lot of Indians software "professionals" who were crowding there in Brickfields. Now all these guys were there in KL but with out jobs ! so one Vice gave way to another with local cops threatening these so called "professionals" and accepting bribes. ( this has happened to some ppl i know). So somewhere things got out of hand obviously and thus the crackdown. If Mr.Srinivasan wants more details he is welcome to write to me. But to unfairly put down comments in his article has made one thing sure...That henceforth I am not going to be impressed with such pedestrian pieces from Rajiv sreenivasan.

The only syndrome is wild conspiracy theories
by Kunal Desai on Mar 19, 2003 06:45 AM

The author started well then fell into his own trap that of religious bigotry and slamming every thing in sight. What happened in Godra was just inexcusable. How does treatment of immigrants in USA justify the events of Gujarat? Or the treatments of Hindus in Bangladesh justify how we treat our own Muslim citizens. For the family that has lost a parent or a child, nothing can ease their pain and suffering no matter how you draw up a statistic.
Back to the main issue, the IT professionals were treated unfairly and thats just not acceptable. Our government is handicapped in taking care of our citizens, how does it help pulling up some inconsequential diplomat or canceling an upcoming visit from a Malaysian minister. I hope the media highlights the issue and does not let it drop of the radar.
The software companies should use local lawyers or look into international trade laws to highlight the issue of safety of our professionals and get some form of compensation for their grievances. In addition an assurance from the Malaysian government should be obtained for the safety of all our citizens (Hindus or otherwise) period.
