Disappointing is the word!!!
by Maitreyi on Jun 20, 2010 02:11 PM

The movie was very disappointing as they was nothing that was exceptional except cinematography. We as an audience understand that the movie is made to suit the commercial needs and also to appeal to the palate of a larger crowd, but its time the film makers take the onus of creating fiction and myth of the present and the past.

Raavan is the blend of the present and the past. We suppose the issues are of the naxalites vs police, which is not made out to be very clear in the movie.
The most disappointing in the movie is Aishwarya Rai's role or the lack of it. She is our modern Sita, whom Valmiki's Sita would be ashamed of. She is so lame and dumb but somehow spirited. she is a typical woman that the right wing politicians would want Indian women to admire and idolize. she dances when her husband is shooting for fun and does not apparently has a life worth of anything. She just a bit perturbed to hear about the rape of Beera's sister..but not appalled or does not react against it in any form...

she does not have a mind of our own ...she undermines the women of today...her character undermines the very spirit of Ashwarya Rai who has been so successful in her life. It is indeed surprising that she accepts her role as a modern but coy woman who accepts any nonsense from her husband even if he is faking it!!! she does not mind being used by her husband to get back to his enemy!
Why?? Can somebody of her position not demand and make the much needed changes to create a new Si

this shows that tamil film industry is going down. there are 100s of flop movies in last few month with fat actresses. mani ratnam tried to cast bollywood actors in it due to availabilty of talent in tamil cinema.
but cudnt stop the series of flop films.
punjabi directors rock. all hits.

Tamil Movies going down???

There are many hit films recently in tamil this year and the best one of all is 'Angadi Theru'. Do a google or rediff search for it and see the review and comments.... you would not find a single negative comment for that movie unless you jealousy guy give one.

By the way, in the last few years big hits like Guru, Wanted, Gajini were all directed by Tamil Directors only.

Let movies flop.. what is there? .. let the black money come out and go to technicians...I prefer 90% of the movies should flop.
Anyway nobody is going to become poor because of movies flopping..

Saw the movie yesterday. Mani Ratnam as usual has given more importance to the sensitivities of his characters and situations that bind his characters against building a big story. For those used to having stories where the hero grows up, gets married, bears children, fights the villain and avenges the 25 years old injustices that occured in life - this movie will look as if it has no story. But in reality it is a very tightly knit script that beautifully draws a parallel between the age old mythology and current happenings. One cannot miss Mani's take on the problems faced by tribal societies. Vikram is class, his face changes emotions in split seconds and each one of those is convincing. Cinematography and background music standsout. Ash has done good work.

Dear Raja Sen:
Dev asks Raghini to take lie detector test as a cover-up to emotionally lead her towards Beera - Did you understand that?

Mani Ratnam's class stands out in the dignified way he shows Beera's sister plot, including the way she asks the cop to smell out Beera's hide out and in retaliation the cop catches her nose. That's creativity at its best to draw parallel with Ramayan. You find fault with that?

This may not be Mani's best work but it is miles and miles ahead all the Indian movies that I have seen in the past 2 or 3 years. That includes Aamir's 3 Idiots and Raajneeti.

Doesn't matter Raavan is a commercial success after all there are many who have Raja Sen like sensibilities.

Looks like u havent seen Dev-D, Kaminey, Love Sex aur dhoka, A Wednesday,Ishkiya, Luck by chance..etc in the last 3 years...or did u just wake up from slumber...

Mani lost it in this movie...as simple as that..and most of the viewers are agreeing to that...Your explanations are lame and silly...infact I found that whole nose thing by Priyamani stupid...just cause he wants to highlight the nose he had used it..(thank god prakash jha didnt make Ajay go with metal jacket to highlight the kavasakundalam..in rajneeti)..
And ya only a stupid woman will run back to Dev to know what he told her husband....instead of waiting and reasoning out...btw tell me how she reaches an inaccesible beera (who is till being pursued by the police) with a starched stain free white kurta whilst during the entire period before they show beera hiding in tough terrains and Raginin in tatters....beats anybody's intelligence..if u have one..

And for once Raja sen in correct and I thank god that there are still people around with raja sen like sensibilities...otherwise any crap will be sold in the name of a movie..let alone a Mani ratnam one...

So if Prakash Jha didn't use bullet proof jacket then Mani shouldn't have his creative liberty.. is it? What an argument!

Ok so... Raghini runs back to Beera to know the truth under emotional strain .. you think she is stupid -- Mani can make his character to be stupid.. can't he? Again what's your argument?

Did you see the movie without prejudice?... Beera's brother takes Raghini to Beera's hideout..so why would her cloths be torn?.. it's people like you trying to think that an artist should follow your logic.. who are stupid..
Mani is an artist.. he has imagined and delivered a very decent product..proabably closer in class to A Wednesday..
Don't make your hatred misjudge his artistic output..
