Excellent review this, Just saw the movie and I'm all for it!....But at the same time this whole pseudo-patriotism is something we can do without with....Hasn't it become a habit with us to make an issue out of nothing lately??

I guess Slumdog really pissed many Indians off, In fact I'm sure abt that but their logic is way too immature!....All those who feel its far from reality, Just take the next local to Dharavi and see for urself....And those who feel it demeans India - You better just wait for the next Karan Johar movie, Where protagonists live in flats which overlooks WallStreet, Have whole Manhattan dancing chorus in steps and the Son comes home in a Helicopter - That surely gonna sop ur pseudo-nationalistic ego :)

As for the rest of the audience with even an ounce of cinematic maturity (and no less love for Mother India than others, I must add!) - We loved it!!!

Mumbai is a shitty place. How many slumdwellers have become billionaires???? Ambani wud have become billionaire whatever the place becoz he was destined to become one. Look at those rubbish examples. Akki Sukki Pakki and all. Akshay Kumar is a useless fella who has not acted in one good film in his whole life.

Grow up.

Honestly, all people who support this movie, tell me one thing. Does the word 'slumdog' insult a slum dweller or not? Honestly, I feel that is insults a particular group of people.

I am not talking anything bad about the film but the title gives me a feeling of westerner's negative impression of India. Atleast, they could not have used the word 'slumdog'.

Have u read the novel Q & A? Well if u havent, then Vikas uses the word SLUMDOG for the character Jamal in the book. And Vikas is the indian author of the novel, from which the movie is adapted.

If so, the very Indian needs to be asked why 'slumdog' was used in front of the media

watchdog is a word that refers to something attentive and alert. This is something good. What about slumdog?

Hindi films
by vidhya shankar on Jan 23, 2009 12:30 PM  | Hide replies

Hindi films have created a image that India is a rich country and all people living are billionaires. If Ambani dwells in a Palace in Mumbai and not a mile away from his home will be the biggest slum in the world. If people think India is rich becoz Ambani is rich, then it is nothing but stupidity. We have 5 lakh beggars to 1 BMW.

Slumdog is a correct portrayal of the existing situation. Irony is that a slumdweller competes for a 2 crore price money and he wins it.

People like Karan Johar shud see and learn to think there are lots of stories that can be made in Mumbai.

I agree but do Americans take any film that negatively protrays them and their culture. Take for example, Iraq war, Afghanistan war where many people were killed, None of the so called american directors took any interest to show those in films that could negatively show Americans.

Have you seen "far From Vietnam" by Godard? If you have, then you'll understand how the Americans appreciate films that portray their country negatively!

Tamils are Superior
by vidhya shankar on Jan 23, 2009 12:23 PM  | Hide replies

How stupid! Rahman composed music for Slumdog in just 12 days and got 3 Oscar nominations just bcoz its a British film. It shows clearly how many Oscars he cud have won had his best works had competed ?? Iruvar, Uyire, Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar, Swades, Rang de Basanti, Roja cud have easily fetched him the Oscars for they are far better works than Slumdog.

Anyway it is a great achievement to win twin Oscars on 22 Feb. Rahman has proved again that Tamil are the most superior race in India.

Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire
by Roshan Gandhi on Jan 23, 2009 12:10 PM  | Hide replies

Yesterday the whole of media (print, TV etc) were only focussing on A R Rahman. Two songs have been nominated for ORIGINAL SONG - both written by the great Gulzar and one song for ORIGINAL SCORE (where Rahman has given the music). But very unfortunately Gulzar has been completely ignored and overshadowed by the media focus on Rahman. I strongly that being nominated for 2 songs for ORIGINAL SONG is a much greater accomplishment than 1 song for ORIGINAL SCORE.
PLEASE GIVE THE IMMENSELY TALENTED AND HIGHLY UNDERRATED GULZAR HIS TRUE GLORY FOLKS AND NOT FOCUS ONLY ON RAHMAN (not for a moment taking away credit from him)

thats not because of ARR, its all bcos of the media. Did any news channel focussed on Resul Pookutty who has got an oscar nomination for Sound editing? They dont give equal recognition for evry1.
