Slumdog Millionare - Deserves no award
by Sanjeev Kumar on Jan 24, 2009 08:00 PM  | Hide replies

A poor film, doesn't deserve even a small award except for great music by Rehman. The movie's aim is just to highlight poverty and Indian slums. Indian slums, dirt and shit is bread and butter and entertainment for Western world. In the end for very small time they show modern India just to please Indians. But the overall message to the world is -- India is a poor slum country.

I don't think it is anything bad..India does have slums like this...let's accept it..and showing it as a subject doesn't make it any bad. I would say if we want to really show india as a good country, isn't there a need to look at these slum kids in a more serious way...rather than just saying that the movie doesn't deserve an award?

We dont have to prove anthing to others. No country is perfect and oscar..well we know our English people never want to see us as a developing country.I believe "mumbai meri jaan" was a better movie and the subject is not only related to our country its a problem whole over the world. SDM movie should be taken as a mirror. We have neglectedd the slum. even when we pass by a slumm we dont feel like looking at them. Lets all open our eyes an help them to come up and that would be great achivement. We dont need oscars let that come to us as its own lets develp India and forget what other country feels and m sure we will set a good example for the other Undeveloped country and developing country. this is the biggest award we can recieve.

its indirectly downgrading india and indian people. politicians take some lessons out of this and improves the lives of poor people. this is a majow law and order problem in india, which is being over looked by politicians. they promote slums to get votes.

Good or bad

I loved the movie but ...I watched it among non-Indians, after the movie there was applause and I heard someone say, great movie but Gawd what a nasty & dirty country, I pity those people.

Now, should I laugh at their ignorance or should I think that this movie just reaffirms the west's imagination about India>?
