Gem of a movie. Excellent direction and fine performances by all the actors including the slum children. I would like the group to perform the dance number Jai Ho at the Oscars. The lead actors along with the slum actors and Bollywood dancers should recreate the dance number on stage at the Oscars with a Railway Platform setting as was in the film. I believe that all numbers nominated are performed live at the Oscars. What better way than than this opportunity to showcase our Bollywood dancing to North American audiences ? They may pick up the moves after watching the dance at the Oscars.
I still feel Lagaan was a better movie than SM. For me, Lagaan is the best movie in recent times. Fundoo direction, class acting, no melodrama, good music (ARR) and perfect editing.
Somewhere down I feel that there is a "gora" factor involved. Gandhi movie too got Oscars but then again it was directed by Sir Richard Attenborough.
NO complaints, though. ARR, you have made us proud. Lage raho!!!

Dear friend ,of course lagaan is a great movie than SM the reason why?couldn't get oscar means...it's a bollywood movie.. it can enter oscar competition only one category that is best foreign language movie..more over it can compete with all other the world movies.. can you calculate the probability..same time SM is a hollywood movie it can enter competition all category...Defnitely ARR will get oscar ....

good one arshad ...i think its not only on mumbaikars but on INDIAN .. i m not mumbaikar but still i proud on this movie
Just 1 or 2 or 3 oscars for Slumdog will give tremendous boost to Indian films and Americans can depend Indian market for making more movies like Slumdog. When the market potential is huge exploiters won't miss a single chance to make money even at the cost of Oscars standard

No offense... but oscar nominations does not make movie profitable. And slumdog was not a big hit.

Ray won only Honorary Oscar which is an ordinary effort. He is not a Tamil like Rahman who I believe are the most superior race.
Along with ARR (who rightfuly deserves such recgnition) please give big hands to Oscar Nominated Resul Pokutti and Gulzar Sir. Other 2 indians who should be praised for their talent.
