Mediocre Musician
by Edward Teller on Jan 17, 2009 09:54 PM  | Hide replies

ARR is an electronic noise maker...no music! His songs are very predictable and lacks depth in variation and imagination. Though not appropriate to compare with oldies like RD, Lakshmikanth-Pyarelal, M.S. Viswanthan, none of his songs give the happiness that I derive from the musicians mentioned above. One song I like is: Ore oru Parvai Parthein...tuned in a Qawwali style was quite good. That is it.

ARR , in my view, is an electronic noise maker. In some ways, comparison with old musicians like RD Burman, Lakshmikanth-Pyarelal may not be appropriate. But, his music lacks depth and variation. This is tru of Ilayaraja too, to some extent. But he introduced new variations and tuned some fine songs. I admire M. S. Viswanathan, the most. His depth and range of imagination is just superb. Salil Chaudhri is a Bengali but made a great mark in Malayalam movies. He attuned to the cine music of Kerala and did an excellent job. This is a sign of greatness.

Kerala can be justly proud of having produced MSV.But, he failed in Malayalam movies!!

ar rahman has done a great job in the music of SDM. lets hope he also wins a oscar which no one is more deserving than him for the year 2008. the previous movies nominated by india in foreign picture also had rahman's music. so its not a stroke of luck.

He will win an oscar. Because he is a tamilian. Not a cheater like a north indian or a malayalee. both communities are criminal communities and copy cat communities born to criminals and pros....

Making music is not ARR's timepass, its his bread & butter. He get work, because he gives his best. Nobody is his uncle out here to give him free work.

You can not compose Hindi songs in Karnataka Sangeet, similarly it is difficult to compose tamil songs in Hindustani Sangeet.

So Tamil movie & hindi movie songs will always sound different.

ARR is the only modern music director from south who has succeeded in both kind of music.

Chander!!
However,Music has no language.
Great musics formula is simple, it has to be enjoyed by all people from various languages.
ARR did that so often.

Any music is as good as the listener. An Indian music listener, will not find Indian songs based on English Classical music very pleasing. Try it.

Whatever names I mentioned of Foreign composers..i m talking about their 'hold' on those awards..as they are old players of it..in such scenario winning GG is certainly triumph..As far as 'our' music is concerned its just too great..i can start list from
Abdul karim khan to Zakir hussain..Naushad to ARR..and I do not go to discos, eat burger or drink cola..so don't bother

what has it got to do with 'India shining'?
by harmonium on Jan 14, 2009 01:07 PM  | Hide replies

It is purely the genius of a man that won him the award, and it is more likely that we wont get such composers regularly.. b'coz in India we do not have proper music schools ppl do not know where to go if they want to become a composer.... how to fine tune their skills.... very few places are there even in the metros ... so one should understand what it would be like in small towns and rural places...... in our part of the world u have to be a good singer to be a known face , the understanding of music is never given that much importance...

INDIA HAS TO GO A LONG WAY BEFORE IT TRULY SHINES.....

Rahman Sir should have REJECTED the award. We don't want anything thats american. Even recognition.
And you guys hoping that AR would get an Oscar, Sorry guys n gals he won't coz he is an Islam.Btw who wants an Oscar? An award at Cannes would be great.
But I still love you AR, you biggest fan
I also love Islam, even though I was not born as one.

Its no triumph my frnd,
We'll triumph over america and the west when , an american values an Indian award like Filmfare or Zee, we'll triumph when our politicians solve our internal matter on our own , we'll triumph when we start making our own defense equipments and not make america and israel richer, we'll triumph when our common man drinks indian formula drink and not coca cola,
we'll triumph when the upper class and politicians accept that more than 70% of our population is poor,
we'll triumph when indians vote intelligently etc etc...
Eating Mcd, KFC ,Subway , going to discos dancing on american hip hop drinking cola is not the shining India.

Dont Compare IR and ARR
by Clean on Jan 14, 2009 12:57 PM  | Hide replies

Ilayaraja is unknown mountain. Rahman is well known small stone. thats it. Rahman father is music director. So no wonder AR has music knowledge. But IR is not comes from music background. He comes from a South tamilnadu DALIT family. His brother is a country side poet and street singer who has worked for communist. IR grew like this. Then he came chennai and survive as street singer and musician. He worked under kannada music director. Then only he learned formal music. then he got mastero award as First ASIAN.

ARR is best no argue in that, but ARR has lot of chance unlike IR.

hello clean, where does dalit come in all this. Why r u dalits so fanatical abt trying to show of u r superiority which is not there. Ilayaraja is a legend no doubt abt it. But at the same time u cannot say ARR is bad. Even he is a genius and a legend. both are equals so dont get to stupid comparisions. I know u cannot help or u nderstand bcos ur a fooocking dalit
