Whatever people say in India, like, Shilpa did it for money or wotever, Shilpa has indeed made all Indians proud. My French colleague, who has no idea about India and Indians followed Big Brother and told me,"I now have a good image about Indians after watching Big Brother." That was the moment for me as well.

On Being Indian

How true Dalbir.

I saw all the videos at YouTube and was shocked by the words being mouthed. I had no doubt that it were "racist" comments. Anyone can see it and tell so.

Shilpa,

We are so proud of you. It was really handled in the best possible way with amazing maturity and self sense of worth.

Yesterday I was talking to a guy in US and he actually told if you are outside of your country, you have to face it! I have heard this thing so many times from so many!!

God!!! Why? Why should we put our heads down? Why can not we be treated as Human Beings?
[Again as I have seen it is due to lack of Unity and sense of belonging to the same country and informing that we are Indians]

Rediff (known for its notoriety in publishing provoking articles on North India -South India divide in India...a very bad one recently), can do some good by making Shilpa feel the tremendous support she has from her fellow Indians and do something on it.

she has tolerated one of the worst kind of torment ..its easy to say-what u said..but coz of her ---people have started acknowledging Indians...

they now see Indians as most tolerant to nonsense..and very positive thinkers

If you are also given a million dollars, you will also do that Sonali so dont preach that she did it for India's image. She did it for money, the racism happened and she cashed on that as well.

I add one more thing
by V D on Jan 22, 2007 08:23 PM

I want to add one more thing to my long post probly none of you will read but its out there so hey.....Well I think I can speak for most British Indians when I say that I dont watch Big Brother and Honestly I would have tuned in just to see Shilpa Shetty one of our own on International T.V. but I live in the U.S. so not a possibility, well anyway to my point I am offended that our culture has been made of fun of and ridiculed on this show not matter if it was scripted or not and people need to see that and nothing else,Please Look at the Big Picture here. No matter how much money anyone gets paid we the indians, the British Citzens dont
deserve this day after day and an Indian Actress does not either.

Shilpa and Racism in Britain
by on Jan 22, 2007 08:23 PM

As an Indian, I cannot understand what all the fuss is about. Initially, I was taken aback by Jane Goody's racist slurs but I rationalized that Shilpa should have known what she was getting into. There are always going to be people, white people, who will hate brown-skinned people.

As for the complaints, Indians have no right to complaint about racism against them until they dismantle the caste system from within their hearts. If high-caste Indians can treat the low-caste people as untouchables, then the former deserve the racism they get from white people. Also, I've noticed that we Indians also tend to discriminate against dark-skinned people, be they fellow Indians or Africans. The hypocrisy involved makes me seethe in anger.

Jade had a point
by Srini Shetty on Jan 22, 2007 08:20 PM

Jade is right that most Indians in Britain are desperately trying to be White. You got to see many of the immigrants trying to pass off as whites by coloring their hair brown. And it is well documented that most racism in Britain in the last decade is in between and amongst the immigrants- Sikhs vs.Pakistanis; Blacks vs.Asians etc.
